Another night, another pathetic loss for the Sabres tonight, losing 7-3 at home to the Predators. Another brutal night for the defense and the playoff hopes sink even farther.
The Preds scored first tonight on a 2 on 1 on a weird shot from Philip Tomasino that beat Anderson to put Nashville up 1-0 11:45 into the first period. Matt Duchene made it 2-0 with 1:17 left in the first, with the Sabres defense getting drawn to one side of the ice, leaving Duchene wide open with an open net to shoot it into. Pathetic defense. Quick first period but a lousy one for Buffalo as wee got outshot 13-5, and doubled up on scoring chances with the Preds almost doubling us up on shot attempts too. The score showed it too as we went into the first intermission down 2-0.
3:36 into the second period, Dylan Cozens chipped in a goal in front to put the Sabres on the board to make it a 2-1 game. Didn’t take long for Nashville to answer back 26 seconds later though, with the Sabres giving up a breakaway to Tommy Novak to make it 3-1 Predators. Right off the next faceoff, Tage Thompson decided to fight Kiefer Sherwood. Love to see that from the face of our team. Not long after Matt Duchene pucked up his second of the night 57 seconds later for a 4-1 Nashville lead. Very quick review and the Preds were way offsides so that goal got pulled off the board. They got it right back with Luke Evangelista getting it right back 9:21 into the second. Then the onslaught started with more shitty defense for the Sabres. 40 seconds later, the
they kept adding to their lead with Evangelista scoring his second in a row and then Ryan McDonagh making it a 6-1 blowout for the Preds with 4:08 left in the second period. With the Sabres on a 5 on 3 power play, Tage Thompson answered back to make it slightly less of a blowout, with a shot past Saros and right under the crossbar with 2:43 left in the period, making it 6-2 for a slightly smaller blowout. Still pathetic. At least the over hit that period.
Jeff Skinner opened the third period scoring 7:47 to make its a 6-3 game with Saros down on the ice and Skins putting it right over him into the empty net for his 30th goal of the year. Nashville iced off the game with an empty netter for Duchene’s second of the game with 2:23 left in the game to push the blowout to 7-3.
Final: Sabres 3, Predators 7
Another pathetic loss. Bad defense. I’m like a broken record on these blogs at this point. I don’t even feel like looking up the final stats on this one. We have one win in our last nine games, ain’t making the playoffs playing like that down the stretch.
At least the over hit. Go Sabres.
