NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 3/24/23

Really solid night yesterday going 9-3-1 to win 3.71 units with one of the losses coming in a shootout loss for the Wild and another a goal short of the over in Stars/Pens. After that loaded twelve game slate, tonight we just have three games with a gigantic 15 game slate tomorrow. Nice job NHL scheduling department…fucking idiots. Whatever, let’s win.

Sabres vs. Devils (7:00)

My Sabres season is dying out in pathetic fashion. They’ve played themselves outside of the Wild Card picture, playing horrible hockey the last month with only one win in their last nine games to drop to 33-31-6 on the season. They’re coming off a 7-3 loss to the Preds at home on Tuesday, the second game in a row they allowed seven goals. Buffalo’s young offense has been very good this season but the defense and goaltending is HORRIBLE. The Devils are in a little bit of a slump right now with just one win in their last five games they’re still having a fantastic season, comfortably in second place in the Metro Division with a 45-18-8 record. They can officially clinch a playoff spot with a win tonight. New Jersey’s played fantastic hockey on both ends of the ice this year. The first time the Devils came to town this season on November 25th, they won 3-1. I’d expect them to beat the Sabres again tonight and I’ll bet against my boys here for half a unit. I’ll also keep riding the over on Sabres games and take it for a unit.

Blue Jackets vs. Islanders (7:00)

This is such an uninteresting game. The Islanders are coming off a huge 7-2 win at home against the Leafs on Tuesday night to extend their win streak to three straight games, with a 37-27-8 record to hold the first Wild Card spot in the East. They’ve played great defensively all season with Sorokin, a Vezina candidate between the pipes. Their offense has struggled all year. That doesn’t come close to the struggles that the Blue Jackets have had though. They’re one of the worst teams in the NHL with a 22-41-7 record. On Tuesday night they picked up just their second win in their last nine games, coming back from a 3-0 deficit and a 5-3 deficit, with Boone Jenner scoring they tying goal with 47 seconds left in the game and the Jack Roslovic beating the Caps 7-6 in OT. Electric game. Statistically Columbus has been horrendous on both ends of the ice. The Isles have won all three previous games this season between these Metro Division teams all by a goal, winning 4-3 in overtime on November 12th, 3-2 in Columbus on November 25th, and 2-1 at home on December 29th. I expect them to complete the season sweep tonight and will take them in regulation for a unit, along with the over for half a unit.

Avalanche vs. Coyotes (9:00)

Big mismatch here in the Central Division between the defending Cup Champs Avs and the Yotes, who are playing their way out of the Bedard sweepstakes. I broke the game down in depth in my article on StatSalt. As I said in that article, the Avs should win this game easily at home to bounce back from their home loss to the Pens on Wednesday. The prices on this game are totally not worth it though with the moneyline at -455, the regulation line at -265, and even the puck line juiced all the way up to -175. Fuck betting any of that. If anything, the Coyotes puck line has fantastic value at +143 on the +1.5 with how feisty of a team the Yotes have been. Realistically though, this is a game to just stay off of. I’d slightly lean the under, but not enough even consider betting on that either, so I’ll just stay off this game entirely.
