I had a losing day on the NHL yesterday, going 4-5 to lose 2.84 units. After a loaded weekend we have just a small three game slate tonight before a huge slate of games tomorrow. Let’s bounce back.
Wild vs. Golden Knights (8:00)
Tonight we should have a fantastic matchup between the two division leaders in the Western Conference as the Knights and the Wild play the second half of a home-and-home in Minnesota after Vegas won 4-1 at home in the first half on Saturday night. I broke this game down in depth in my article on StatSalt. Like I said in that article, I’d lean the Golden Knights complete their season sweep of the Wild on the road tonight, giving them the offensive edge in this game but not enough to even consider to bet on it in what I see as pretty much a coin flip of a game. I’d also lean the under but not enough to bet it either. This should be a fantastic game though and I can’t wait to tune in.
Stars vs. Predators (8:30)
This isn’t the best Central Division matchup. The Stars are having a very good season, comfortably in third place in the division with a 41-21-14 record. Coming off a 5-2 loss in Colorado on Saturday, they’ve gone 4-2-1 in their last seven games. Dallas has played really well on both ends of the ice this year. The Predators are having a disappointing season with a 38-29-9 record but are still in the playoff mix, three points back from the Jets for the second Wild Card spot in the West. They dominated the Blues with a 6-1 win at home on Saturday afternoon, but haven’t been all that great recently, with four wins in their last ten games. Nashville’s been good defensively this season with Juuse Saros between the pipes but they’ve struggled offensively big time for a bulk of the season. The Stars won each of the first three games between these teams this season, winning 4-1 in Nashville on October 13th, winning a 5-1 blowout at home two days later on October 15th, and then getting a close 3-2 win on the road on December 27th. I expect Dallas to bounce back from Saturday’s loss and complete their season sweep of the Preds tonight on home ice. I’ll take them in regulation for half a unit. I’d slightly lean the over but not enough to bet it.
Kraken vs. Coyotes (10:00)
Not the best game to finish off this lousy slate tonight. The Kraken are comfortably in the first Wild Card spot in the West with a 41-26-8 record, coming off a 3-1 loss at home to the Kings on Saturday night. Seattle has been good offensively all season but inconsistent defensively. The Coyotes are one of the worst teams in the NHL with a 27-37-13 record (still a bit too good to be in the Bedard sweepstakes though). Coming off an embarrassing 7-2 loss at home to the Sharks on Saturday night, the Yotes are on a seven game losing streak. They’ve been terrible on the road where they have just a 7-23-9 record. Arizona’s struggled mightily on both ends of the ice this season. The Kraken are the far better team in this matchup and I expect them to win easily tonight on home ice. The moneyline at -315 is way too expensive but I’ll take them in regulation, laying the -190 juice on them for half a unit. I like the team total better though, and will take the Kraken TT over 3.5 for a unit. I’d lean the over on the game as well but not enough to bet it.
