Last night with the Leafs collapse, I had another shitty night on the NHL, all thanks to Toronto, going 1-3 to lose 4.74 units. Just one game tonight as the Canes and Devils face off for Game 2 of their series! Let’s get a little winner here.
Game 2: Hurricanes vs. Devils (8:00)
The Hurricanes dominated Game 1 at home on Wednesday night, getting a 5-1 win in a game that New Jersey never stood a chance in. Carolina outshot the Devils 23-18 and outplayed the Devils by an expected goal rate of 3.97-2.11. I’d slightly lean that they win again tonight in Game 2 at home in the insane environment of PNC Arena, but not enough to bet it. The price on this game being -110 is a little bit confusing, so the books definitely think that the Devils are gonna bounce back. Game 1 of this series should have stayed under, with a pointless empty net goal to hit the over by half a point late in the game. Both of these teams have been very good defensively and I’m expecting the games in this series to trend under. During the regular season, the Hurricanes allowed the second-fewest goals in the NHL, having given up the fewest expected goals and the fewest high-danger shots. The Devils allowed the eighth-fewest goals in the NHL, having given up the third-fewest expected goals and the third-fewest high-danger shots. In the first round of the playoffs that continued. In the first round, the Devils allowed the second-fewest goals backstopped by the incredible goaltending of Akira Schmid, and that’s despite allowing five goals in each of the first two games of the series. The Hurricanes were very good defensively in the first round as well, allowing the sixth-fewest goals of the first round. I’m going right back to the under in this game for half a unit.
