With the Avs third period comeback last night, I got a nice little sweep on the NHL, going 3-0 to win 2 units, my second profitable day in a row and my third in the last four. Tonight we have a big ten slate, let’s win again and keep chipping away!
Senators vs. Hurricanes (7:00)
Not the best matchup here but it could end up being an interesting game. I had high expectations for the Hurricanes this season, but they’ve been far underachieving, especially defensively. Coming off a 4-3 loss to the Canucks on the road on Saturday, they’re on a four game losing streak. The Senators have been pretty bad this year, but come into tonight with three wins in their last four games. In the first game between these teams Carolina won 5-3 at home in the first week of the season. I do think they’re the better team and should get a win on the road here, but it definitely isn’t enough of a lean for me to bet. I do like the over though, which I’ll take for half a unit.
Rangers vs. Maple Leafs (7:00)
This should be a fun game tonight. The Rangers got out of a two game slump on Sunday with a big 4-1 win against the Kings. They’ve been one of the best teams in the NHL this season and one of the favorites to win the East. The Leafs last night came back from a 3-1 deficit to force overtime on the road against the Isles, with Morgan Reilly scoring the game tying goal with just seven seconds left in the game, with John Tavares getting his 1000th career point on the assist for that goal, against his former team. They went on to lose in overtime 4-3. Toronto’s been a solid team this season, having picked up a point in eleven of their last twelve games. They have a lot of close games though and have so many games that go to overtime. Especially with the Leafs on the second half of a back to back, I like the Rangers to win this game and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d slightly lean the over, but definitely not enough to bet it with how good the Rags defense is.
Penguins vs. Coyotes (7:00)
This game should be pretty fun. The Penguins are in a pretty big slump, coming into tonight’s game on a four game win streak, with just three wins in their last twelve games. Their offense hasn’t been able to get much going, but their defense has been good. The Coyotes have been a decent team this year, but come into tonight’s game on a three game losing streak after losing 5-2 to my Buffalo Sabres last night. I’d lean Pittsburgh wins here at home, especially with the Yotes on the second half of a back to back, but I don’t like it enough to bet on it at around -200. I do like the under though, which I’ll take for half a unit.
Blues vs. Red Wings (7:30)
Both of these teams come into tonight’s game on three game losing streaks. I’m a bit surprised by the Red Wings three game losing streak. They’re coming off a 6-3 loss in Dallas last night, which wasn’t too much of a shock, but prior to that I was pretty shocked by their 5-1 loss to the Senators and 6-5 overtime loss to the Sharks (where they blew a 4-0 lead). The Blues are coming off two horrible losses, losing to the Blackhawks and the Blue Jackets. Even in the second half of a back to back, I like the value on the Red Wings here as a road dog, and I’ll take them for half a unit at +116. I like the over too, and I’ll take the alternate over 6 for half a unit as well.
Predators vs. Flyers (8:00)
I’d be shocked if someone before this season started said that this would be a really fun matchup, but somehow it is as both of these teams have played really solid hockey. The Predators, coming off a 2-1 win in Montreal on Sunday (winner for me), with ten wins in their last 13 games (and four in their last five). The Flyers are even more impressive to me. I thought they’d be sitting in the basement of the league, but Torts has this team playing elite defense. They’re on a four game win streak, coming off a 5-2 win in Colorado on Saturday to improve to 10-3-1 in their last 14 games. I’d lean the Preds win here at home, but not enough to bet it. I really like the under though, which I will take for a unit, expecting this to be a solid defensive battle.
Oilers vs. Blackhawks (10:00)
Huge mismatch here. After their horrendous start to the year, Connor McDavid and the Oilers are the hottest team in the league right now, coming into tonight’s game on a seven game win streak. They’ve played incredible offensively and decent enough defensively in that span. This team’s starting to give more and more of the vibes of the 2019 St. Louis Blues. The Blackhawks after two wins against the Ducks and Blues, are coming off a 4-2 loss to the Caps on Sunday. This team blows. This should be an easy win for the Oilers to keep this hot run going. The problem is the prices on this game are ridiculous and not justifiable. I don’t love it at 4.5 with juice on it, but I’ll take it for half a unit. If the 3.5 was less than the -230 that it is, I would be absolutely hammering this.
Canucks vs. Lightning (10:00)
This game should be fun. Both of these teams are playing good hockey and I’d expect this to be a close and competitive game. Both teams have three wins in their last four games, and have played well. In the first game between these cross-conference teams, Tampa won 4-3 at home. I’d lean the Canucks tie the season series and would lean the over, but not enough to bet on either. I’ll lay off this game completely.
Golden Knights vs. Flames (10:00)
The Golden Knights are still my favorite to win the Stanley Cup and repeat it. They’ve been hot lately and although they blew my puck line, needing overtime to beat the Sharks 5-4 on Sunday (still made a profit on that game with the easy team total), the Knights are on a fantastic run right now. They’re on a three game win streak with five wins in their last six games and picking up at least a point in each of their last eight games and all but two of their last 13 games. They’ve played great on both ends of the ice. The Flames are struggling right now. Last night they blew a 5-3 lead going into the third period, going on to lose 6-5 to the Avs (winner for me to close out my night with a sweep). They have just one win in their last five games after they went on a pretty solid run for a while. A few weeks ago in the first game between these teams on November 27th, the Flames picked up the win in overtime at home, winning 2-1. I like Vegas to answer back tonight relatively easily at home in the fortress, especially with Calgary in the second half of a back to back. I’ll take the Knights in regulation for a unit. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it.
Kraken vs. Panthers (10:00)
Pretty big mismatch here with a surprisingly nice price in this cross conference game. Florida’s far exceeded my expectations this year, and coming off an easy 5-2 win in Columbus on Sunday, they’re on a three game win streak. This team’s statistically been awesome on both ends of the ice. The Kraken on the other hand have been horrible, one of the worst teams in the league. They got shut out 3-0 by the Wild on Sunday, and they’re now on an eight game losing streak. The Panthers won the first game between these teams 3-2 at home and I expect another win for them on the road tonight. I thought the line on this game would be around -200 or more, but it’s surprisingly just -175, which I’ll take for a unit.
Sharks vs. Jets (10:30)
The Jets have been great this year, on both ends of the ice, surprising me quite a bit as they’ve played really well on both ends of the ice. They’re on a four game win streak after a 4-2 win in Anaheim on Sunday. They did take a pretty significant hit though as their leading scorer, Kyle Connor will be out 6-8 weeks with injury. The Sharks are complete motherfuckers lately to bet against. They’ve looked at times like they could be the worst team in NHL history, but they keep making games stay close, coming back from huge deficits and making a ton of games end up being one goal losses. They also have five wins in their last eight games, so there’s that, and they’ve only lost in regulation twice in their last ten. Even without Connor, I like the Jets to win this game. I’ll take them in regulation for a unit along with their team total over 3.5 for a unit.
