I couldn’t blog it but the Sabres came into tonight’s game off a great 5-1 win over the Senators on Tuesday night that ended our three game losing streak. I was impressed with how well they played in that game. They carried that momentum into tonight with a spectacular 6-1 win in MSG, dominating the Rangers on the road.
The Sabres started off hot real early tonight as Dahlin beat Shesterkin on a shot from the top of the circle just 26 seconds into the game to put Buffalo up 1-0. Really solid start for the Sabres again, especially against as good of a team as the Rags.
Dylan Cozens on a beautifully placed shot to the right post made it 2-0 Buffalo for his second goals of the season just 2:45 into the second period. The Sabres made it 3-0 on a quick shot from Tage Thompson right in the slot with 8:21 left in the second. Just 29 seconds late, Jason Zucker made a great play right in front, passed it over to Greenway right in front, who put it into the empty net to make it 4-0 Buffalo. With 6:09 left in the second, Sam Lafferty picked up his first goal as a Sabre, making it a 5-0 game and chasing the best goalie in the league out of the net, off a nice backhand pass from Beck Malenstyn in transition. What a period for the Sabres. Really poured it on great in impressive fashion, and it was just as good defensively.
With 15:39 left in regulation, the Rangers broke the shutout with what looked like a high stick redirect from Will Cuylle to make it a 5-1 game. Zach Benson added to the lead on a power play goal, tipping in a great pass from below the goal line from Jack Quinn to make it 6-1 with 8:05 left in the game. Two incredible wins in a row for the boys.
FINAL: Sabres 6, Rangers 1
What a win. We played great tonight on both ends of the ice, for a second impressive win in a row. Although we were outshot 26-22, it sure didn’t look like it. Pouring on five goals in 12 shots and chasing one of the two best goalies in the league out of the net on home ice is impressive on it’s own. Defensively the Sabres didn’t really give up many chances and UPL came up big where he needed to.
