Sabres @ Canadiens: 3/3/25 – Game Reactions/Recap

Tonight the Sabres lost again to the Habs, as Montreal completed their season sweep against Buffalo with a 4-3 overtime win after the Sabres erased an early 3-0 deficit, losing it typical Sabres fashion.

The Habs got on the board first, on the power play, 9:42 into the game, with Nick Suzuki setting up Cole Caufield for a nice rip for the first of the game. Less than two minutes later, Montreal made it 2-0 on Nick Suzuki’s second point of the night, scoring shorthanded on a two on one with Mike Matheson. Two minutes later, 3-0 Canadiens on a pathetic goal to give up, with Montreal once again scoring on the power play, as Juraj Slafkovsky tried to pass the puck cross ice through the crease, but it went off Connor Clifton and into the back of the net. This team’s so pathetic.

Buffalo definitely looked better to start the second period than they did in that lousy first. The Sabres finally broke the shutout with 1:53 left in the second period, as Alex Tuch went to the net, tipping in the rebound on a Dylan Cozens shot in transition to make it a 3-1 game. Great effort from both of them on the rush to get on the board.

Tage Thompson got the Sabres within one 3:28 into the third on a beautifully placed rocket of a shot top shelf, to make it a 3-2 game. With 1:01 left in regulation after some nice chances, Rasmus Dahlin tied the game up 6 on 5, cashing my over and likely sending this game to overtime. Suzuki had one nice chance to get the win in the last minute, but onto OT. Good fight for the Sabres to battle back and erase that early 3-0 deficit in the first.

Mike Matheson ended it 1:20 into overtime to give the Habs the win and complete the season sweep.

Final: Sabres 3, Canadiens 4 (OT)

Another typical Sabres loss. Got off to too slow of a start, giving up too many goals and taking too many penalties early, crawling out of the hole, and then losing anyway.
