Tonight I didn’t think the Sabres played great, but held on to get a huge 3-2 win in our first game back from the Olympic break against the Golden Knights.
The Sabres opened the scoring 4:02 into the game, with Jason Zucker getting the puck off a rebound and making a nice play in front to make it 1-0 Sabres. Okay period, wasn’t the best, but we got the lead.
46 seconds into the second period, Owen Power shot it from the point, top shelf over Schmid to give the Sabres a 2-0 lead. Tage Thompson made it 3-0, making the arena erupt with USA chants 5:43 on a beautiful shot far side off the zone entry. Fantastic goal. Ivan Barbashev answered back, walking Kozak behind the net to answer back and scoring on a wrap around to get Vegas on the board, cashing my Tage/Eichel point parlay early with Jack getting the secondary assist with 13:12 left in the second. Pavel Dorofeyev with 11:33 left in the second got Vegas back within one in a quick transition play, beating Lyon on a soft one. Real fun period of hockey.
We didn’t play great in the third period, with Vegas pretty much dominating play, but with some great, timely saves by Lyon, the Sabres hung on, not giving up any goals in the third to get the win.
FINAL: Sabres 3, Golden Knights 2
Big win on home ice tonight even in a game we didn’t play great in. Huge two points to get within just two of first place and hold onto second in the Atlantic, beating a good team in our first game back home from the Olympic break. Make that four in a row for the Sabres. I was on the edge of my seat this whole game tonight, especially in the third period. We couldn’t establish the zone whatsoever in the third, but with Lyon’s great play in net, and some luck, got the win.
Let’s go Buffalo!
PS: I fucking hate all the dumb ass Sabres fans that boo Eichel every time he touches the puck. Kid’s still a phenomenal hockey player and he’s grown up a ton since he left here. Terry should’ve let him get his fucking surgery. Shut the fuck up.
