Fantastic night yesterday in the NHL for me, going 15-5-1 to win 8.22 units. Solid night. Let’s win again on tonight’s five game slate!
Red Wings vs. Golden Knights (7:00)
Pretty solid cross conference matchup to start off the night. The Red Wings are coming off a 4-2 win in Nashville on Monday afternoon in a matinee to bounce back from their loss on Saturday, in third place in the Atlantic Division, two points back from the Sabres and a point ahead of the Habs. The Golden Knights are in the second half of a back to back, still leading the Atlantic Division by a point over the Ducks, but on a three game losing streak after they couldn’t tie it up to lose 3-2 in Buffalo last night, where they dominated the third period and couldn’t get the puck past Alex Lyon. In the first game between these teams back in November in Vegas, the Knights got a 1-0 shutout win at home. With Vegas in the second half of a back to back, I’d lean the Red Wings win here at home, but not enough to bet them. I’d also lean the under, but not enough to take that either at 5.5. I do like some player props here though. I’ll parlay Jack Eichel and Lucas Raymond to each get a point for a unit, and I’ll separately take Dylan Larkin to get a point for half a unit. I considered Marner individually as well, but don’t like it enough to bet him.
Devils vs. Maple Leafs (7:00)
This Eastern Conference matchup stinks. The Devils have been awful all year, with a 30-29-2 record, playing decent defensively but horrible offensively. They’re in the second half of a back to back tonight, coming off two wins in a row after a 5-1 win at home last night against the Panthers. The Leafs have been brutal too, with their offense playing fine but horrendous play on the back end. They’re missing the playoffs, coming into tonight on a four game losing streak after a 3-2 shootout loss at home to the Flyers on Monday to fall to 27-24-10 on the season. These teams split their first two games this season, with the Devils winning 5-2 at home in October and Toronto answering with a 4-0 shutout win at home in December. I’d slightly lean the Leafs are the better team and should get out of this losing slump on the road here, especially with Jersey in the second half of a back to back, but I’m not trusting them enough to bet them. The total’s a complete toss up to me. I’ll parlay Auston Matthews, William Nylander, and Jack Hughes to each get a point for half a unit.
Canucks vs. Hurricanes (10:00)
Gigantic mismatch for this cross conference game. The Canucks are far and away the worst team in the NHL with an 18-35-7 record. They’ve been horrendous on both ends of the ice and coming off getting killed 6-1 at home on Monday night to the Stars (easy winner for me), they’re on a six game losing streak with just two wins in their last 22 games. Team’s pathetic. The Hurricanes on the other hand have been fantastic, playing great on both ends of the ice as they lead the Metro Division by seven points with a 38-16-6 record. They’re coming off a surprising 2-1 loss in Seattle on Monday night, ending a six game win streak with their first regulation loss in their last twelve games, and just their second in their last 18. The first game between these teams in Carolina in November surprisingly went to overtime, with the Canes winning 4-3 at home. I like them to win even easier tonight. The books do too with the moneyline at -325, and the regulation line even north of -200. I’ll take their puck line for 1.5 units. I’d lean the over, but not enough to bet it. I’ll also parlay Seth Jarvis and Sebastian Aho to each get a point for a unit.
Ducks vs. Islanders (10:00)
This should be a pretty solid cross conference game. The Ducks have played very well lately. They had a five game win streak end last night with a 5-1 loss at home to the Avalanche (nice winner for me in that one), but have won twelve of their last 15 games to improve to 33-24-3 on the season, in second place in the Pacific, a point behind the Golden Knights and a point ahead of the Oilers. Their young offense has been really solid, but defensively they have struggled. The Islanders are tied with the Penguins for second and third place in the Metro Division with a 35-21-5 record. Coming off a 5-4 win at home against the Panthers on Sunday, they’re on a five game win streak with eight wins in their last ten games. They’ve played the opposite style of hockey than Anaheim, with a really good defense and solid goaltending, but a struggling offense. The Isles won the first game between these teams 5-2 at home in December. I’d slightly lean the Isles win again on the road with the Ducks in the second half of a back to back, but this game’s a complete crap shoot to me on both the side and total. For my only play on this game, I’ll take Cutter Gauthier to get a point for half a unit.
Kraken vs. Blues (10:00)
Boring matchup out West to end the night. The Kraken have been decent, in the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference with a 29-22-9 record, a point behind the Oilers for third place in the Pacific, which is so tight in that weak division. They’re coming off two wins in a row after a surprising 2-1 win at home against the Hurricanes on Monday. Although they’ve been good on the back end, their offense has struggled. The Blues are coming off a shocking win, beating the Wild 3-1 on the road on Sunday evening, but they’ve been terrible, in last place in the Central with a 22-29-9 record and already shopping trades before Friday’s deadline. This team’s awful on both ends of the ice. These teams split their first two games in St. Louis, with the Kraken winning 4-3 in overtime on the road in November and the Blues answering with a 5-1 win at home last week. I like Seattle to win again here and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d slightly lean the under, but I’m not touching it.
