Great start to the NHL season with three straight winning nights as I went 4-2 yesterday to win 1.28 units. Let’s keep rolling on tonight’s staggered five game slate!

Red Wings vs. Rangers (6:30)
This isn’t a great Eastern Conference matchup to start off the night between these two Original Six teams. The Red Wings had their struggles last year, missing the playoffs and this iconic franchise is now in the longest playoff drought in the NHL. In the offseason the turmoil continued, with the legend Steve Yzerman no longer being the GM and captain Dylan Larkin requesting a trade that hasn’t happened yet, and getting stripped of the C. The Rangers are 1-1, in the second half of a back to back tonight, bouncing back from their opening night 3-0 shutout in Boston with a 5-1 win capped by an impressive Igor Shesterkin goalie goal to end the game. With the Rangers in the second half of a back to back, I’d lean the Red Wings win at home. I’d also lean the over, but I’m not touching this game.
Hurricanes vs. Capitals (7:00)
Fantastic Metro Division matchup here between the two teams I expect at the top of the division this year. The defending Cup Champs opened the season losing 1-0 with five seconds left overtime of a a double shutout at home against the Panthers after they raised their Cup banner. The Capitals weren’t all that great last year, but I think they were one of the most improved teams in the offseason and should be very good this year. I’d lean the Canes still find a way to win here at home, but don’t like this game enough to bet it. Can’t wait to watch, but I’ll stay off this game entirely.
Jets vs. Bruins (8:00)
Boring cross conference matchup. Last year the Jets started their season horribly, and did turn it around after the Olympics break to make a push for the playoffs but still missed it, just a year after winning the President’s Trophy. I don’t really expect much out of them, but their prognosis got much bleaker when Connor Hellebuyck, the best goalie in the league, requested a trade out of Winnipeg in the offseason. He’s currently suspended by the team, and I think he’s already played his last game as a Jet. The Bruins had a solid start to their year, shutting out the Rangers 3-0 at home on Tuesday. I like Boston to win here on the road as a slight dog and I’ll take them for half a unit. I’d lean the under, but not enough to bet it.
Stars vs. Blues (9:00)
Wouldn’t say this Central Division matchup’s great. The Stars are a very good team and although they lost to the Wild in the first round last year in absolutely the toughest first round matchup of the playoffs, they were the second best team in the league last season. I have high expectations for Dallas, expecting them to be Cup Contenders once again. The Blues were a mid tier team last week, that were feisty but still missed playoffs. I like Dallas to win here at home to start the season and I’ll take them for a unit. I’d lean the under slightly, but not enough to bet it.
Golden Knights vs. Ducks (10:00)
Fantastic Pacific Division matchup to end the night in a rematch of the second second round last year where the Golden Knights knocked off the Ducks in six games to go to the Western Conference Finals. Vegas started their year with a 5-2 win on opening night at home against the Blackhawks in a three point night for Jack Eichel. Anaheim was a surprise to a lot of people last year with their young offense playing phenomenal hockey. That led to drama in the offseason, as the Flyers sent an offer sheet to Leo Carlsson, essentially forcing the Ducks to match it and sign him to a $18M AAV contract, changing the market completely. They also signed Cutter Gauthier to a new $13.5 AAV contract, locking him up. It’s a good thing the cap is soaring up, but they could have some issues in the future with that much money on two guys. But for now, this team’s just getting another year of experience and getting even better. I fully expect these two teams to be in the top 3 in the division this year again. I think this to going to be a solid, competitive game. I’d slightly lean the Knights win it at home, but the price here at -205 is insane. I do like the over quick a bit though, and I’ll take it for a unit. I considered a couple player prop parlays, but don’t think they’re worth betting, especially this early.
