TIGER FUCKING WOODS BABY!!!!

The greatest ever. He just won his 5th fucking Masters after 3 back surgeries, a bad stretch of years for him personally and a back fusion. And he’s got another green jacket. The greatest ever. And I couldn’t be more ecstatic.

I didn’t really get to watch Tiger in his prime when I was a kid but he was always one of my favorite golfers (second favorite behind Phil). And I knew the greatness. He was the best ever. A player who transcended golf. The killer instinct. Red on Sunday, you knew he was gonna stare down whoever was in his way and win. That’s how you get now 81 career wins on the PGA Tour. I got to see some of the Tiger effect last year during the Tour Championship when he closed out the year getting his first win in five years, but today was something unlike anything I’d ever gotten to watch before. Magic.

It was a fantastic Masters tournament even if Tiger hadn’t been in contention.  Brooks Koepka, winner of 3 of the last 6 major championships. Dustin Johnson, the best player in the modern era of golf. Francesco Molinari, multiple time winner last year including the British Open over Tiger and a winner this year. All in contention to win on Sunday. But none of it mattered, cause the GOAT was in control.

After a great first round with a score of 70, which Tiger did all four times he previously won at Augusta, Tiger didn’t falter throughout, with a -4 round on Friday and an impressive -5 round on moving day. He stayed in contention throughout. Going into today at -11 with Francesco Molinari at -13, Tiger needed a little bit of magic today. And he sure made that magic, outplaying the rest of the field in an impressive matter.

Playing in the final threesome today due to some good luck due to bad weather with tee times moved up to early this morning and a change to threesomes instead of pairs (which would have had Tiger in the second last group due to Tony Finau almost tying an Augusta course record low round yesterday), Tiger was one back of “Moliwood” after shooting a one under 35 on the front nine. Then it started to happen, that Tiger effect. With the Tiger roar in full effect at Augusta, everyone else started to crumble. At the Par 3 12th hole, Golden Bell (my favorite hole on the course and the wallpaper on my phone), the pressure was too much for Molinari and Finau as both their terrible tee shots got wet and Tiger was safely on the green. With double bogies for both and a safe par for Tiger, he was in the lead.  With birdies on both the Par 5s (13 and 15), Tiger was at the top of the board and then almost aced the Par 3 16th and tapped in for another bird. And that was it. Everyone else crumbling. In the second last group, Brooks missed a birdie putt on 18 that would have put some pressure on Tiger, Tiger came in and finished with a safe bogie 5 on 18 to secure his 5th green jacket, his first since 2005.  A win for the ages.

With a look of pure joy on his face, Tiger embraced his two young kids (who had previously only seen him win on YouTube) and his mom and girlfriend in the same place he shared a hug with his late father after his first major championship win in 1997. A special moment of emotion for any golf fan to watch. In post round interviews for Brooks, DJ and Molinari, they all talked about the Tiger effect and knew it was his time to win again. And what a win it was. Patrick Reed placed the coveted green jacket on Tiger in Butler Cabin and with a happy “It fits”, that was it. A story book ending. What a day.  Congrats to Tiger, congrats on the comeback. Truly the greatest ever. He’s back.

Oh, and by the way, got him +1410 after the first round, notttaaabigdeal 💰.
