The New York Yankees just embarrassed the Minnesota Twins, sweeping them in three games of the ALDS with a 5-1 win tonight on the road.
It didn’t take too long tonight for the Yankees to get on the scoreboard tonight when in the top of second inning, Gleyber Torres hit a solo bomb on the first pitch that he saw from Jake Odorizzi to make it 1-0 Yankees early.
In the bottom of the second, Luis Severino got himself into a bit of trouble with the bases juiced with no outs, but Sevy got himself out of it nicely. A nice pop up to mound and then two strike outs to get out of the inning. In the top of the third, the Yanks kept the scoring going. Gio Urshela lead off the inning with a double and DJ LaMahieu grounded out to move Gio over to 3rd. After Aaron Judge struck out after getting to full count, Gardy goes the opposite way past Sano at 3rd scoring Urshela making it 2-0 Yankees. In the bottom of the third, Sevy allowed a few hits putting him in a tough spot again. With one out, Jorge Polonco singled to right and Eddie Rosario singled with 2 outs putting Polonco in scoring position. After throwing three straight balls to Garver, Sevy got it to 3-2 and struck him out swinging. Severino went the fourth inning pretty stress free before Tommy Kahnle, Adam Ottavino and Chad Green kept the shut out going for the Yanks. Aaron Judge proved he’s one of the best defensive outfielders in baseball making an excellent grab to keep the game scoreless.
In the top of the 7th, Gleyber lead off double deep left and the knighted one, Sir Didi Gregorius scores him in on a ground ball single up the first base line making the game 3-0. Eddie Rosario broke the Twins out of the shutout with a 412 foot solo homer to center off Zach Britton to make it 3-1. Chapman comes in for a 5 out save which he got the first 2 outs of pretty quick with a pop out to right and a strikeout with a 100 mph pitch. The Yanks pretty much locked up the game in the top of the 9th, when Cameron Maybin comes through for a solo dinger off of Sergio Romo making it 4-1.
After the homer, Gleyber doubles and steals 3rd, Gary Sanchez grinded out an at bat to draw a walk and Didi scores in Gleyber to make it 5-1.
In the bottom of the 9th, Aroldis Chapman let runners get on 1st and 2nd with no outs before a strike out and an awesome snag by Didi to get the Twins down to their final out with Nelson Cruz at the plate.
Sweep!!!!! Yanks sweep the Minnesota Twins and we’ll most likely go on to play the Houston Astros in the ALCS (who didn’t sweep to shitty Tampa Bay Rays) for a chance to play in the World Series.
Start spreading the news!!! Play that Sinatra song!!
Let’s Go Yankees!!!! Next. Man. Up.
