Craziest Loss Ever By the Preds Tonight

The Nashville Predators played at home vs. Calgary tonight in possibly the craziest hockey game I have ever watched. Of course, I bet on the team that is my pick to win the Stanley Cup this year tonight against an underwelming, yet good, Flames team. And what a roller coaster it was.

The first two periods of this game was pretty stress free for me with Nashville getting a 2-0 lead in the first ten minutes of the game on goals from Nick Bonino and Austin Watson. They finished the second period up 4-1 with both goals in the second period coming off of short handed opportunities, notably with Austin Watson getting assists setting up both of them on some great plays. I’m pretty relaxed and happy with this game at that point.

In the third period, Nashville blew their three goal lead with some pretty sweet goals with the tying goal coming with 3:21 left in the game. But with a minute, 22 seconds left, Preds tied it up off, you guessed it, Austin Watson’s goal for his fourth point of the night. Career night for that kid. I’m thinking the Predators should be able to close this game up. Nope, with David Rittich on the bench for the Flames, Matthew Tkachuk knots the game up at 5-5 with just 39 seconds to go. On to overtime. In OT, both teams had some great scoring chances in a hard fought five minutes with no goals in what seems to be going to a shootout. And then, with just 1.3 seconds to go in overtime, Matthew Tkachuk scores between the legs for one of the sickest goals of the year, shocking Bridgestone Arena. If Andrea Svechikov hadn’t scored the “lacrosse goal” to get Carolina a win against this same Calgary team a couple days ago, this would have been the goal of the year.

Still can’t believe I lost my bet on this game tonight and the Preds blew a three goal lead in the last period of the game, but I can’t not respect the effort that Tkachuk put in to win this game. Insane.

Vegas better beat Montreal in the late game tonight so I don’t get killed on this two game slate.

Happy Halloween!
