NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 5/1/21

Lousy night last night as Vegas got shut out to lose all my parlays. But the Knights were absolutely the right bet there so I can’t really be pissed that much on it. As we start the last month of the NHL regular season there’s a HUGE slate today. Let’s win!

Bruins vs. Sabres (1:00)

The Sabres haven’t been awful lately, but the Bruins have dominated them this season. The B’s are 6-1 on the season against the Sabres. The moneyline is too expensive for me here but I’ll go against my Sabres and take the Bruins in regulation for a unit.

Red Wings vs. Lightning (3:00)

Tampa’s in a tight race for playoff seeding with Florida and Carolina so every win matters. They’re 4-2 this season against a lousy Detroit team that can get fiesty in some games including the last game these teams played on 4/4 where the Red Wings blew out the Bolts 5-1. I think today Tampa avenges that loss. The ML is way too pricey here too so I’ll take Tampa in regulation for a unit.

Islanders vs. Rangers (7:00)

The Islanders are the better team in this New York rivalry this season and they’ve won 5 of the seven games between them this season. I’ll take the Isles for a unit here.

Flyers vs. Devils (7:00)

After going on a long losing streak, the Devils have won back to back games against the Flyers in their last two games. Both these teams are some of the worst in the NHL. The season series is knotted up at three each and I’d lean the Flyers win today but I’m not betting on that. I’ll take the over for a unit in this one which has hit in five of the six games between these teams this season since neither team can play defense.

Capitals vs. Penguins (7:00)

The winner of this game will be in sole possession of first place in the East Division after tonight. In games between them this season, the Penguins are 5-2 on the year but they’ve played close with four of those seven games being decided in overtime or a shootout. The over is 5-2 in those games. I’m going to skip this game completely since its a coin flip in either direction.

Hurricanes vs. Blue Jackets (7:00)

Even though these teams are at opposite ends of the Central Division standings, the Canes are only 4-3 against Columbus this season. I do think Carolina wins but with the heavy price of -350 and that three of the last four games between these two teams going to overtime, I’m not betting this game. I don’t hate the +370 draw prop on this game but the chances of another one going to OT isn’t great. I’ll skip betting this game.

Canadiens vs. Senators (7:00)

Ottawa’s 5-3 this season against Montreal despite Montreal being in the fourth playoff seed in the North. Outside of the Habs 5-3 win over the Jets last night, they’ve sucked lately and haven’t been able to score. Ottawa’s been pretty good lately with five wins in their last six games. I think Ottawa wins this game but the ML price of +135 doesn’t really have any value to it. I’ll take a half unit shot here and the Sens in regulation for the nicer price of +230.

Maple Leafs vs. Canucks (7:00)

The North Division sucks. The Leafs are in first place by nine points and the Canucks are in last place (they obviously don’t have as many games played as the rest of the division but still aren’t great), yet the season series between them is 4-4. The Leafs, who are coming into this game on a four game win streak should win this game but at -300, I’m not betting on them.

Panthers vs. Blackhawks (8:00)

Florida clinched a place in the playoffs earlier this week and they’re real close to first place in the Central. This season they’re 5-2 against Chicago and I think that continues tonight. I’ll take the Panthers for a unit here.

Wild vs. Blues (8:00)

The Blues are hot lately winning their last four straight including their last two games against the Wild. I do think that Minnesota is the better team of the two this season, but St. Louis has their number and they’re 4-1 on the season against the Wild. I think Minny gets a bounce back win here but I’m not betting this game.

Predators vs. Stars (8:00)

There’s been some really good games in the season series between these two teams and Nashville leads the season series 4-3. The Preds only hold a two point lead over Dallas for the final remaining playoff spot in the Central so this game is huge for both teams. I’d lean Nashville but I’m skipping this game entirely. The line on this game is exactly what it should be at a -110 coin flip.

Avalanche vs. Sharks (8:00)

Last night the Avs took care of business with a 3-0 shutout win over the Sharks in Grubauer’s first game back on the ice from COVID protocol. On the season, Colorado’s 4-1 against SJ and I think they win again tonight. I’ll take the Avs in regulation for a unit.

Oilers vs. Flames (10:00)

I don’t think I’ve correctly picked a game all season in the Battle of Alberta. Edmonton leads it 5-4 on the season and they’re the better team but games go nuts in the biggest rivalry in hockey. I’d lean the Oilers here but I’m not betting it.

Ducks vs. Kings (10:00)

The two worst teams in the West. I’d lean the Kings win this one to end the season 5-3 but I’m not betting on this game.

Coyotes vs. Golden Knights (10:00)

My Golden Knights ruined my night yesterday as they ended their ten game win streak with an extremely disappointing 3-0 loss to the Coyotes, killing all my parlays and losing me a ton of money. But I can’t be that mad at that game with how much I’ve made on Vegas this season. There’s variability in hockey and weird losses happen sometimes. Vegas was the right bet yesterday. I don’t think the Knights lose two in a row against the shitty Coyotes and they’re still 5-2 against them this season after last night. I’m going pretty heavy here with 2 units each on the ML and the regulation line.
