NHL Playoffs 2021 Series Preview: Oilers vs. Jets

While it felt like forever for the North Division to finish their regular season, we finally kick of the playoffs in Canada with the #2 seed Edmonton Oilers facing off against the #3 seed Winnipeg Jets.

The Edmonton Oilers have been one of the best teams in Canada this season, led by the best player in the NHL, Connor McDavid. McJesus ended the regular season with a highly impressive league leading 105 points, 33 goals and 77 assists.

The Oilers were hot coming into the playoffs with eight wins in their last eleven games. While the Jets pretty much stuck in a playoff spot the whole season, they really sucked in the closing stretch of the season, losing nine of their last twelve games.

On the season, the Oilers had a convincing 7-2 record against Winnipeg and covered the puck line the last 4 times they played. Statistically, these two teams actually match up pretty closely and are pretty much even across the board on every meaningful stat.

I’d give the Jets the edge in goaltending in this series but McDavid, Draisaitl and the Oilers offense is going to overpower Winnipeg. I think the Oilers win this series without much of an issue. I’ll take the Oilers to win the series for three units.

In Game 1, I’ll take the Oilers for 2 units. I looked at Connor McDavid props but the over .5 goals prop of +105 doesn’t really have any value to it so I’m skipping that one.

Bets

3u Oilers to win series (-175)

2u Game 1: Oilers ML (-155)
