NHL Playoffs 2021 Series Preview: Maple Leafs vs. Canadiens

The last first round playoff series begins tonight with the two Original Six teams in Canada, the #1 seed Toronto Maple Leafs and #4 seed Montreal Canadiens.

The Leafs lead Canada as the top seed in the North Division the entire season. They rolled through every team in Canada lead by Auston Matthews, who lead the league in goals and was Top 5 in the league in points as well as Mitch Marner who was fourth in the NHL in points and fourth in assists. Their offense was a wagon.

With the North Division being so shitty this year, the Montreal Canadiens, despite struggling the entire season got into the playoffs in the fourth remaining spot in the North. In fact, they would have missed playoffs in any other division. That’s a testament for how terrible the North was this season. The Habs struggled offensively, they struggled in goal and they were a disappointment this season. I don’t think any team in Canada, including Toronto has the chance to win the Stanley Cup.

In the regular season, the Leafs were 7-3 against the Habs and were 4-3 on the puck line in those games that they won. Statistically, the Leafs are better than Montreal in both goals for and goals against.

I think Toronto should roll through this series but at the expensive price of over -300, I have no interest in betting the series props on this game. I’d expect the Leafs win this series in probably 5 or 6 games. If the Leafs start to roll, I’ll likely jump on them on each individual game.

As a Sabres fan I hate the Toronto Maple Leafs. I hope they choke and the Habs win this series in a big upset to knock them out of the playoffs early, but I don’t really expect that to happen at all.
