Last night we got a big OT win for Carolina as the captain Jordan Staal was able to solve Juuse Saros while the Leafs took a 3-1 series lead in a big 4-0 win. Tonight there’s three Game 6s with the ability for the Islanders, Lightning and Golden Knights to close out their series.
Game 6: Islanders vs. Penguins (6:30)
On Monday night, the Pens completely dominated Game 5 and just couldn’t get the puck past Sorokin. But a bonehead move by Tristan Jarry in double OT gave the Islanders a big win to give them a 3-2 series lead. Tonight back on Long Island the Islanders have a chance to close this thing out. I think the Penguins are still the better team in this series and I think they tie up the series on the road tonight to force Game 7. I had a pretty big series bet on the Penguins as well as them to win the East (which already has the other hedge on the Bruins at +180). I considered adding the Islanders to win the East at +255, but at that point I’m better off just letting the Bruins bet on the East ride even if the Isles do win this series. I think the Pens win tonight and force Game 7 and anything can happen then. I’m just letting my Penguins series bets ride (which I did already buy out of some of that when the series was tied 2-2) and not doing any bets on Game 6 in this game.
Game 6: Lightning vs. Panthers (8:00)
Spencer Knight got his first playoff start for the Panthers in Game 5, only his fourth NHL start and made 36 saves on 37 shots as his Florida Panthers extended the series to Game 6 with a 4-1 win. I think Tampa is going to be too much for Florida to handle and the Battle of Florida ends tonight. I’ll take the Lightning for 2 units for the bounce back win at home to close out this series. With this being an elimination game, the series trending over and insanity happening in elimination games I’ll take the alternate over of 5.5 for 2 units as well (I don’t hate the 6 either but would play it lighter if you can’t get the 5.5).
Game 6: Wild vs. Golden Knights (9:00)
In Game 5 in Vegas, the Wild got out to an early 3-1 in the first period and then somehow got out of the game with a 4-2 win on the road while only having 14 shots on goal. That’s insane. Vegas dominated play but just couldn’t find a way to tie up the game at 3, while outshooting Minnesota 40-14. This isn’t going to happen again. The Knights will close out this series tonight on the road and go on to play the must anticipated West Finals against Colorado. 2 units on Vegas ML. I would lean the under here but with it being an elimination game, if Vegas has a lead in the third period, the Wild are likely going to pull Talbot earlier than you’d see in a non elimination scenario, so I’ll stay off that.
