NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 6/16/21

Last night felt like a must win game for the Lightning, which they pulled off with a 4-2 win. It went over by a goal (life’s too short to bet the under) for me to go 2-1 on the night with a .5 unit profit. Tonight Vegas and Montreal play Game 2 and I have my biggest bet of the year on it.

Game 2: Golden Knights vs. Canadiens (9:00)

The Vegas Golden Knights started this series beautifully at home in Game 1 on Monday night with a 4-1 win outplaying Montreal on every aspect of the game. The Habs weren’t able to compete with the Knights whatsoever while playing 5 on 5 hockey, with their only goal of the game coming from Cole Caufield on the power play in the second period. I’ve said the entire season that the Golden Knights along with the Colorado Avalanche (that they just beat in six games to win the West Division) were the best teams in hockey as they ended up tied for first place in the regular season. I’ve also said that the North Division was such a weak division and the worst in hockey by a huge margin. I said that whoever came out of that division would get the shit kicked out of them in this round vs. whoever they’d end up playing. In the North Division, Montreal was pretty bad at points of the year and Carey Price caught fire during the playoffs to get them this far. I still think all of that applies and that Vegas ends up sweeping the Canadiens (or a gentlemen’s sweep in five games). Tonight these teams face off again in the Fortress, the loudest and craziest building in all of hockey with a sold out full capacity crowd while Montreal hasn’t had any fans in any games (besides 2500 in the last round) all year. Two days ago we saw in the small sample size of one game, that exactly what I expected to happen did. I have to trust myself on these games that matter in a time that less random variability occurs with the final four teams fighting for a chance to go onto the Stanley Cup Finals. The moneyline’s way too expensive on Vegas at -275 tonight but I love them to win this game without much issue. I’m hammering this game with my biggest bet of the NHL season (my biggest prior was 4 units on the Islanders in regulation against Michael Houser’s debut for my hometown Buffalo Sabres) with six units on the Vegas Golden Knights in regulation.
