Last night Montreal continued to shock the world (although it wasn’t a huge surprise last night) and knocked off the Vegas Golden Knights to advance to their first Stanley Cup Finals appearance since 1993. This team had only one more regular season win than the Ottawa Senators and now they’re the first team to punch their ticket into the Cup Finals, awaiting the winner of Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals tonight between the Lightning and Islanders.
I lost my futures on Vegas last night, so its down to just both teams out of the East for me. No one expected that series to go the way it did, so oh well. Sometimes you just have to take the loss and move on. Can’t dwell on that kind of result.
Game 7: Lightning vs. Islanders (8:00)
In Game 6, the Lightning got out to a 2-0 lead on the road in what could have been the final game at Nassau Coliseum before the Islanders made a comeback to force overtime and then with Anthony Beauvillier put the game winner past Andrei Vasilevskiy just 1:08 into overtime to force Game 7. The two greatest words in sports. Tampa has not lost two games in a row in the playoffs in the last two seasons and I don’t think that trend changes tonight. I think the Bolts end this series at home tonight. I have futures on both of these teams to win the Cup, accounting the loss on whoever gets eliminated tonight, those futures pay out 11.45 units if Tampa wins the Cup or 10.8 units if the Isles win the Cup. I’m just letting these ride for tonight. If Tampa wins tonight, I think there’s better odds on Montreal to hedge on, so I’ll wait till after tonight’s game to do so. I’d lean the over in this game but I’m not betting it.
