NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 10/16/21

Got a nice win last night on the Minnesota Wild as Marcus Foligno scored the game winner with only 8 seconds left in the game. Tonight we have the biggest slate of this season.

Sabres vs. Coyotes (1:00)

The Sabres surprised a lot of the hockey world with a big 5-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night, playing like a fiesty team at home with a crowd of only like 8000 fans. Today they play against another shitty team, the Arizona Coyotes. The Yotes got shit pumped by the Blue Jackets on Thursday in an 8-2 loss. I’d slightly lean Arizona and the over here, but I’m not betting either.

Panthers vs. Islanders (6:00)

These two teams could be top playoff contenders this season. The Isles got a lousy start to the season with a 6-3 loss on Thursday night on the road in Carolina. The Panthers rallied in the third period with two goals from Aaron Ekblad two minutes apart to tie their game up against Pittsburgh before winning in overtime 5-4. I’d slightly lean the Panthers in this game but this is a coin flip game to me, so I’ll stay off it.

Bruins vs. Stars (7:00)

The B’s make their season debut tonight with one of the best lines in hockey returning in the perfection line and Taylor Hall as one of the best second line guys in the show. Dallas is healthy now after facing a ton of injury issues last year. In their season opener Thursday, they won 3-2 on the road in overtime to the Rangers. I’d expect the Bruins to win this game, but not enough to back them at -180 (and I actually see some value to Dallas here). I’ll take the under in this game for half a unit.

Maple Leafs vs. Senators (7:00)

The Leafs have already played two games this season, a 2-1 win over Montreal at home on Wednesday and then a 3-2 loss to the pesky Ottawa Senators the following night on Thursday. The Leafs under perform against Ottawa and although Toronto should win this game pretty easily, they are not worth -270 by any means. I’ll take Ottawa +1.5 for half a unit. Way too cheap at -112 when they can still lose and cash this bet. I don’t expect the Leafs to blow them out so this is worth a shot for me.

Canadiens vs. Rangers (7:00)

Both of these teams started the season with two losses. The Rangers opened the season getting crushed 5-1 to the Caps and then losing 3-2 in overtime to the Stars. The Habs lost 2-1 to the Leafs and then to the Sabres 5-1. I think the Rangers are the better team here and should win this game with Igor Shesterkin in goal, but I don’t like them enough to bet on here.

Red Wings vs. Canucks (7:00)

Detroit’s not a good hockey team by any means but they played pretty well offensively against Tampa on Thursday night. The Red Wings got to a 6-3 lead before giving up three straight for the Lightning to force overtime and then lost in OT. Vancouver lost their season opener 3-2 against Edmonton and then beat the Flyers 5-4. I think the Canucks are the better team here and have the young future stars that will be able to outplay the Red Wings lineup. I’ll take the Vancouver ML for half a unit and the over for a unit. Both teams have guys that can score and both teams aren’t great defensively.

Penguins vs. Blackhawks (7:00)

In their two games so far this season (without Crosby, Malkin and Guenztel), the Pens have been able to score pretty well. They goals came easy against Tampa in their 6-2 win to open the season and then in their 5-4 overtime loss to Florida. Even though the Blackhawks got better in the offseason, they didn’t look great in either game they have played this year. I’d lean the Penguins in this game, but I’m not betting it.

Capitals vs. Lightning (7:00)

After Tampa got their season opener ruined in a terrible 6-2 loss to the Penguins, they bounced back with two separate three goal comebacks in the same game against a shitty Detroit Red Wings team before Andrea Palat’s game winner in overtime. In both of those games, Tampa’s been pretty disappointing so far. The Capitals looked fantastic in their 5-1 season opener against the Rangers. I think at some point Tampa will flip a switch and look awesome but I have zero faith in betting this game in either direction. If anything I’d lean the over.

Blue Jackets vs. Kraken (7:00)

The Blue Jackets has a great offense but struggle defensively. In their season opener, they crushed the Coyotes 8-2 but I’d put more of that on how bad Arizona is rather than Columbus being good. The Seattle Kraken showed good signs in both games they have played in their short franchise history, getting a 4-3 win over Nashville (who’s also bad). They’re going to be an annoying team to play against and grind out games. I’d slightly lean Seattle in this matchup, but not enough to bet on it so I’ll lay off it.

Predators vs. Hurricanes (8:00)

I think Nashville is gonna probably suck this season besides the games that Jusse Saros steals away with his stellar goaltending. They lost 4-3 in their season opener on Thursday night. Even though Carolina got worse in the offseason, they’re still a decent team and started the season with a big 6-3 win against the Islanders. I think Carolina wins this game, but with Freddy Anderson confirmed in goal for them against Saros, I’ll skip this one.

Avalanche vs. Blues (9:00)

The Avalanche are a top cup contender and started the season with a 4-2 win over Chicago. The Blues brought in Brandon Saad and Pavel Buchnevich in the offseason after disappointing a bit last year. Tonight the Avs are without Nathan MacKinnon who’s out with injury and Gabriel Landeskog who’s suspending for two games for his stupid dirty hit on Kirby Dach. Colorado’s the better team here but without their two best players, I’m not betting on this game.

Oilers vs. Flames (10:00)

The Calgary Flames open their season on the road tonight and this team could either be a contender to make the playoffs in the weak Pacific Division or if things don’t go well, could very quickly be in rebuilding mode and moving guys at the deadline if they don’t start the season well. McDavid and Draisaitl started the season with a 3-2 shootout win over the Canucks on Wednesday night. I’d lean Edmonton wins this game, but not enough to bet on it so I’ll stay off this one.

Sharks vs. Jets (10:00)

The Sharks are going to be terrible this season. I have zero expectations for them. The Jets have a good top six, improved their defense and have a great goaltender in Connor Hellebuyck. In their season opener against the shitty Ducks, they lost 4-1 while outplaying them and outshooting them but they got into penalty trouble that ultimately cost them. I think in this favorable matchup the Jets bounce back with a good win. I’ll take Winnipeg for a unit at the good price of -136.

Kings vs. Wild (10:30)

The Kings got a big 6-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights in their season opener. They have a lot of good young players that could put it together to get wins, but will end up probably missing the playoffs. The Minnesota Wild won their season opener last night 2-1 with a goal from Marcus Foligno with eight seconds left in the third period. Clutch winner for me on that one. I’d slightly lean the Wild but on the second leg of their back to back on the road, I’ll stay off this game tonight.
