Went undefeated on yesterday’s small slate, going 2-0 for a 2 unit win (9-2 run over the last 2 days). Huge NHL slate today with a few early day games too. Let’s crush it.
Senators vs. Rangers (1:00)
After they lost their first two games to start the season to the Caps and Dallas, the Rangers have rallied with wins in their last three against Nashville, Toronto and Montreal. The Sens are 2-2 keeping it pretty close in every game they play. I’d slightly lean the Rangers win this one, but I’ll skip this game.
Capitals vs. Flames (1:00)
Ovi and his Washington Capitals have looked great to start the season, 3-1 and averaging 4 goals per game while only allow 1.75. Calgary hasn’t impressed me in the slightest through their 1-1-1 start and really think they could be big sellers at the trade deadline. Caps should win this game at home today and I’ll take them for a unit.
Wild vs. Ducks (6:00)
The Wild are 3-0 to start the season but haven’t really done anything to impress me in their wins over the Ducks, Kings and Winnipeg. The Ducks have two wins (over Calgary and Winnipeg) but they’re not a great team. Minnesota should win this game but Anaheim’s been keeping games way too close (+1.5 is 4-1 in the Ducks games this year), so I’ll lay off this game with the price of -250 being way too expensive for me to want to lay on this one.
Devils vs. Sabres (7:00)
The Sabres took their first loss of the season last night, losing to the rival Boston Bruins 4-1. They actually played pretty decent in that game and they’ve been a fun team to watch this season. The Devils look much improved from last year with their 2-1 start. I’d lean the Devils win this game but with both backups in goal, I’m just skipping this game today. I’d lean the over as well but not enough to bet it.
Canadiens vs. Red Wings (7:00)
This is a bad game. Montreal has the absolute worst offense in hockey, averaging less than a goal per game (0.8 GF/G). Detroit hasn’t been terrible this year but they aren’t a great team. I have zero interest in watching this game. I’d lean the Red Wings win this one but with Jake Allen in goal for the Habs, I’d be concerned that the Wings aren’t able to score much. I’d lean the under 5.5 here and I’ll take Montreal TT under 3 in regulation for half a unit.
Lightning vs. Avalanche (7:00)
This should be an awesome game that last year could have been a Stanley Cup Finals match up that a lot of people predicted. That didn’t happen but both of these teams have the talent to win the Cup. Both of these teams haven’t looked good defensively, allowing 4.25 goals per game. That’s lead the Avs to a 1-3 start and a 2-2 start for Tampa. I think both teams should be able to score and I’ll take the over in this game for a unit.
Flyers vs. Panthers (7:00)
Both of these teams have looked good to start the season. Florida’s 4-0 with big wins against Pittsburgh, the Isles, Tampa and Colorado. All playoff teams from last year. After losing 5-4 to Vancouver in their season opener, the Flyers beat Seattle 6-1 and the Bruins 6-3. Both of these teams have been good offensively with Philly averaging 5.33 goals per game and Florida averaging 4.5. Florida’s been better defensively, allowing only 1.75 per game. The Flyers haven’t been bad defensively either, allowing 2.67 (they’ve had easier competition though). The Panthers are the better team in this game and should win this game but I’ll lay off it.
Penguins vs. Maple Leafs (7:00)
The Leafs have been a joke so far this season, starting off 2-2-1, losing to Ottawa, the Rangers and SJ. Their offense that on paper looks fantastic is only averaging 2.2 goals per game. The Penguins got off to a good start of the season. 2-0-2 without their best players in the lineup and now even more important players are out with Jeff Carter on the COVID list and Bryan Rust out with injury. I’d lean Pittsburgh wins this game at home, but not enough for me to bet on them.
Blue Jackets vs. Hurricanes (7:00)
Carolina’s started their season 3-0, picking up where they left off from last year, despite losing some of their best players in the offseason. The Cane’s offense is firing averaging 4.33 goals per game while their defense is only allowing an average of 2 per game. Columbus is 3-1 so far but the only one they really impressed me in was upsetting the Isles in overtime 3-2 on Thursday night. I’ll take Carolina for half a unit here on the road.
Jets vs. Predators (7:00)
Neither of these teams have looked good this season and will likely miss the playoffs with significant holes in their lineups. This game’s going to suck. I’d slightly lean the Jets here but I have zero interest in betting this game.
Blues vs. Kings (7:00)
The Kings are coming off a let down game last night where they lost in overtime to Dallas in a game where LA outplayed them and outshot them 45-23 and just couldn’t get the puck past Holtby. The Blues won’t be an easy task for them in this game, coming in with a 3-0 record averaging 5 goals per game. I love St. Louis in this spot at home and with Jordan Binnington confirmed in goal. I’ll take them on the ML for a unit.
Coyotes vs. Islanders (7:00)
The Islanders came into this season as a contender to win the Stanley Cup but haven’t started the season great with a 1-2-1 record. In their last two games, they beat the Blackhawks 4-1 on Tuesday and then lost in overtime after giving up the lead in the third period to the Blue Jackets. Arizona has been by far the worst defensive team in the NHL allowing an insanely high 5.25 goals per game. I love the Islanders here so I’m loading up on them. I’ll take the Isles in regulation for a unit, the Isles TT over 3 for a unit and the over 5.5 in this game for a half unit.
Kraken vs. Canucks (10:00)
Tonight the Seattle Kraken open their new arena with their franchise home opener. They haven’t been great through their five road games to start the season, with a 1-3-1 record. Vancouver hasn’t been great either though starting 2-2-1. This should be a pretty good game and I’d slightly lean the Kraken get a win in their first ever game at home, but I’m not betting this one.
