NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 11/17/21

Jumped back into the NHL last night with a 3-2 night for -1 unit. Not bad considering the Blues lost to the Arizona Coyotes. Tonight’s just a three game late slate of West coast hockey games that I’m analyzing.

Canucks vs. Avalanche (9:00)

Colorado hasn’t been playing to the level that they should be this year, sitting at 6-5-1. Their offense has been firing pretty well, averaging a fourth best 3.5 goals per game. Their defense has sucked though, allowing a bad 3.25 goals per game (25th in the NHL). Vancouver’s defense is even worse and even Thatcher Demko’s great play isn’t bailing out this 5-9-2 team as they’re allowing 3.38 goals per game (27th). Their offense blows too, scoring a sixth worst 2.5 goals per game on average. They’ve dropped their last four straight games and only have two wins in their last ten games. Nate MacKinnon, JT Compher and Bowen Byram are all out of the lineup for the Avs which is a blow to Colorado but they should get a win on the road here. When these teams played last week, the Avalanche blew out the Canucks 7-1. Although I’d expect this game to be slightly closer, Colorado should still win. I’ll take the Avs and the over here for a half unit each.

Kraken vs. Blackhawks (10:00)

After their 1-9-2 start, the Chicago Blackhawks come into this game with three straight wins against Arizona, Pittsburgh and Nashville. They’re still a bad team on both ends of the ice, scoring a third lowest average of 2.13 goals per game and allowing a fourth worst 3.4 goals per game. Seattle’s been terrible too at 4-10-1, coming into this game with four straight losses and just one win in their last seven. They’re scoring just 2.8 goals per game and allowing a second worst (only better than Arizona) 3.67 goals per game. I have zero interest in this game from a betting perspective and don’t even really have leans on it. Both defenses are bad which would make me lean the over, even though neither team could score which points to the under. And both teams have been bad so the winner here is a flip of the coin to me. Skipping this game.

Kings vs. Capitals (10:30)

Last night the Caps lost 3-2 in overtime on the road in Anaheim. At 9-2-5, they are still a very good team. Their offense, lead by Ovi’s 26 points and 12 goals are fourth in the NHL in goals per game, averaging an impressive 3.5 per game. Their defense and goaltending has been good as well, allowing the fifth fewest goals at just 2.44 per game. LA’s been pretty solid recently as well with an 8-5-2 record and before losing 3-2 in overtime to Winnipeg on Saturday, they were on a seven game win streak. Their only scoring the eighth fewest goals per game at an average of just 2.6 but their defense and goaltending has been phenomenal, allowing the third fewest goals in the league at an average of 2.27 per game. With LA coming into this home game on four days rest and the Caps on the second half of West coast back to back road games, I’d slightly lean the Kings tonight, but not enough to bet on them. I also like the under and will take that for half a unit. I’d guess this is a pretty slow, yet entertaining game.

Game Bets

.5u Avalanche ML (-165)

.5u Avalanche/Canucks over 6 (+100)

.5u Kings/Capitals under 5.5 (-120)

Record (Regular Season): 82-92-3 (-21.12 units)
