I went 5-5 for +0.52 units last night. Boring night with a lot of action but I’ll take the positive money. Only two NHL games tonight, let’s keep the winning streak rolling!
Hurricanes vs. Flames (7:00)
Carolina is having a very good season with a 23-7-1 record, 10-3 at home and come into this game on a four game winning streak. They’re scoring the seventh most goals in the NHL, an average of 3.42 goals per game and they’re even better defensively, allowing the fewest goals in the NHL, just 2.13 goals per game on average. Calgary is having a good season too with a 17-9-6 record but come into this game with back to back losses to Florida (6-2) and Tampa (4-1) and they’ve lost six of their last eight games. They’ve allowed the second fewest goals, right behind the Canes, allowing an average of 2.41 goals per game. They’ve been scoring a good amount as well, averaging 3.09 goals per game, twelfth most in the NHL. The first time these teams played on December 9th was a great game, with Carolina winning 2-1 in overtime. I like Carolina to win this one again and I’ll take them on the ML for a unit. I’d lean the under here as well, but both teams have been significantly trending over lately so skipping the total is probably the best move here.
Blues vs. Capitals (8:00)
This game should be electric to watch with both teams matching up very well. They both come into this game off losses but have won three of their last five. The Blues are 19-10-5 with a 12-3-2 record at home, while the Caps are 20-6-8 with a 10-3-3 record on the road. Both teams are averaging 3.44 goals per game, tied for fifth most in the NHL. They’ve also both been pretty good defensively. Washington is allowing the sixth fewest goals in hockey, 2.59 goals per game on average and the Blues are allowing an average of 2.77 per game. I think this will be a high scoring affair, with both teams trading goals. I’ll buy the over down a full point to 5.5 for two units (surprisingly cheaper than I expected. I’ll also take a .4 unit stab (minimum on my book) on this game to go to overtime at the nice odds of +335. I’d slightly lean the Blues end up winning this one at home but not enough to even consider betting it. The line here at a -110 pick on both sides is spot on.
