NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 2/7/22

Great night last Wednesday, crushing the board and going 7-1 to win 9.7 units before going to the much needed All Star break and four days off from “real” NHL action. We saw some awesome moves in the skills competition on Friday night and a fun All Star Game on Saturday, but it feels good to be back with normal games. We have two close matchups to dive into tonight.

Maple Leafs vs. Hurricanes (7:00)

This game matches up two of the best teams in the NHL. Carolina comes out of the All Star break with a 31-9-2 record and on a four game win streak with only one loss in their last eight games. They’re fifth in the NHL in scoring, averaging 3.48 goals per game and allowing the fewest goals in hockey, only an average of 2.33 goals per game. The Leafs are also a great team, coming into tonight with a 29-10-3 record on a five game win streak. They’re averaging the fourth most goals in hockey, an average of 3.6 goals per game and allowing the sixth fewest goals in hockey, an average of just 2.64 goals per game. Tonight All Star goalie Jack Campbell gets the night off and backup Petr Mrazek will get the nod in goal. The first time these teams played this season, the Hurricanes won 4-1 in Carolina. Tonight, with the goaltending matchup, I’d lean the Canes get it done again. Toronto’s still a great team though this season and are at home (despite there not being any fans in the stands, which makes that significantly less of a factor) which makes me stay off the ML here, although there’s great value in getting Carolina at + money. The bet I really like on this game is the Carolina TT over 2.5, which I’ll take for 2 units. I don’t really have much of a lean on the over/under here. Both teams have great offenses and great defenses, so the total entirely depends on how the game plays out. I’d almost think this game ends with exactly 6 goals, leaning the over on the 5.5 but under on the 6.5. I’ll take a 0.2u shot at exact score 4-2 Carolina at +2500, which will win 5 units if it hits. Worth a small gamble.

Senators vs. Devils (7:00)

Both these teams suck, which actually could make this a decent game. The Sesnare 14-22-4, with three wins in their last nine games. Not great. They’re scoring only an average of 2.73 goals per game, eleventh fewest in the NHL while allowing an average of 3.38 per game, eighth most in the NHL. While this sounds terrible (it is), NJ is even worse. The Devils are on a six game losing streak with just one win in their last ten games and they’re 15-25-5. They are averaging 2.78 goals per game, just slightly better than the Sens, 13th fewest in the NHL but they’re even worse defensively, allowing a fourth most in the NHL average of 3.53 goals per game. The first time these teams played this season on December 6th in Jersey was tight with both teams trading goals to go to overtime with Ottawa winning 3-2 in a shootout. I’d slightly lean Ottawa and the over here, but no shot I’m betting this game.

Game Bets

2u Carolina TT over 2.5 (-154)

0.2u Exact score 4-2 Carolina (+2500)

Record: 397-273-15 (+22.8 units)
