Last week for PLL’s Opening Weekend of the season I went 2-3 to lose 1.82 units, with the big loss being on the Whipsnakes only winning by a goal and not covering the -1.5 against the Chaos. Let’s bounce back on Week 2 this week as the league goes to Charlotte, NC.
Chrome vs. Redwoods (6/10 6:00)
Last week the Chrome opened their season with an 11-10 win over the Archers lead by their attack line of Dylan Malloy and rookies Logan Wisnauskas and Brendan Nichtern. The Redwoods got blown out 17-11 by the Atlas in their Opening Weekend game and especially struggled defensively. Last season when these teams played on Opening Weekend the Redwoods won 14-11. I’d slightly lean the Redwoods win this game but I don’t like it enough to bet on either side of this one. I will take the over though for half a unit, not really expecting either team to come up very big defensively.
Chaos vs. Archers (6/10 8:45)
Both of these teams opened their season with losses last week to start the season. Despite not having most of their starting offense since they’re all playing for the Bandits in the NLL Championship, the Chaos played very well and lead most of their game against the Whipsnakes but eventually lost by a goal with a final score of 9-8. I was actually pretty impressed by that loss from the Chaos. The Archers came a goal short as well on opening weekend, losing 11-10 to the Chrome. That loss surprised me even though they didn’t have their best player in Grant Amend. These teams have some history between them with the Chaos knocking off the Archers from the playoffs in the past two seasons. They played three times last season. In Week 2, the Archers won 12-8 and in Week 8 the Chaos answered back with an 11-9 win. In the playoffs the following week, the Chaos won again with a 13-10 victory. I’d slightly lean the Archers win this game, since I think they’re the more complete team with the Bandits all out for the Chaos and I’ll take them for half a unit. I like the under in this game as well and will take that for half a unit.
Atlas vs. Cannons (6/11 6:00)
Both of these teams put up very impressive offensive performances on Opening Weekend. The Atlas look like the best team in the PLL and lead by Jeff Teat’s seven point game (5 goals, 2 assists) they beat the wheels off the Redwoods 17-11. The Cannons were surprisingly very good in Week 1 too with a 16-10 victory over the Waterdogs. Lyle Thompson lead a new look Cannons offense with 4 goals and 2 assists. These teams played three times last season, with the Atlas sweeping the Cannons. They won 18-17 in a high scoring Week 3 game, won 13-12 in Week 7 and then the Atlas knocked off the Cannons in the first week of the playoffs with a 13-9 win. I love the over in this game, expecting both teams to score and will make my biggest PLL bet of the season with 1.5 units on the over 24.5. I like the Atlas to win this game, but the moneyline is so expensive at -210. I’ll split my bet on them with half a unit each on the ML and the -2.5.
Whipsnakes vs. Waterdogs (6/11 8:45)
Neither of these teams impressed me much last week. The Whipsnakes trailed the Chaos for a majority of the game but came back with the tying goal with 1:57 remaining in the game and then the game winner from Mike Chanenchuk with five seconds left in regulation for the Whips to win 9-8 and not cover my -1.5 bet. The Waterdogs were even worse, losing 16-10 (splitting my bets) to the Cannons. They’re clearly missing their world class goalie Dillon Ward, who’s still out this week as he plays in Game 2 of the NLL Championship for the Mammoth, with just a 38% save percentage from backup Matt DeLuca last week. The Whips will be without Zed Williams in their offense, who’s also out playing for the Mammoth but the Waterdogs missing Ward is a clearly bigger impact. I don’t expect much out of this game but will take the Whips for half a unit.
Bets
