The Sabres started their west coast road trip tonight early in the season with a huge 4-2 win in Edmonton against Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and their Oilers.
Buffalo got on the board early, just four minutes into the game with Rasmus Dahlin scoring the Sabres first power play goal of the year 4 on 3 after Owen Power drew a penalty on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. It didn’t take long for the Oilers to answer back though as Darnell Nurse jumped into the play in transition to tie it up on a pass from Leon Draisaitl just 23 seconds later. Edmonton poured it on in the first period, outshooting us 15-6 but thanks to Eric Comrie’s solid play in goal in his hometown return to Edmonton we went into the second period all tied up at 1.
Tage Thompson weaved through the Edmonton defense for an absolute beauty of goal 46 seconds into the period to give us a 2-1 lead. 5:15 into the period, JJ Peterka got the puck past Stuart Skinner on the breakaway to put the Sabres up 3-1. Solid period defensively as well keeping the Oilers off the board and outshooting them 12-9.
With their net empty, the Oilers made it a one goal game with 1:33 remaining on a Ryan Nugent-Hopkins goal amidst chaos in front of the net. Pretty big sweat to end the game with the best player in the world on the ice for the Oilers. Eric Comrie made plenty of timely saves and with 4.9 seconds left in the game Alex Tuch put the game away with an empty net for our Sabres to win 4-2!
FINAL: Sabres 4, Oilers 2
Huge win for the boys while getting outshot 48-24. Great night in goal for Eric Comrie who came up huge and was key in the win. We get the dub on the road in Edmonton. Excellent game!
Nice cash for me too on the Sabres +1.5! 💰
