The CJ Cup – Gambling/DFS Preview 2022

This week on the PGA Tour we have a new course for the CJ Cup, Congaree Golf Club near Hilton Head, SC. We previously saw this course for one PGA event, the 2021 Palmetto Championship.

Course Breakdown

Par 71, 7685 yards, plays very long with an advantage to length off the tee but the course plays super firm and fast so you’ll get a ton of rollout off the tee, Bermuda grass throughout, natural sand on the course with native waste areas (so players can ground their club in it without penalty), relatively flat with only 30 feet in elevation changes, wide fairways, driving accuracy was higher than tour average (~68% vs. 62%) and driving distance with that extra rollout was exceptionally higher than tour average (~302 yards vs. 283) which was the longest driving distance of any course that season, very large elevated greens with lots of slope and undulation with runoff areas and sandy native areas surrounding them, seems similar to Australian courses

Tournament Notes

  • This course previously hosted the 2021 Palmetto Championship which replaced the Canadian Open that season due to COVID restrictions in Canada and that event was much more difficult
  • At the Palmetto in 2021, SG: OTT was almost as important as approach, which is rare. Usually approach is much heavier weighted towards the finishing results with SG: OTT weighing almost double as important as it does on tour average
  • No cut event
