Sabres @ Kraken: 10/25/22 – Game Reactions/Recap

The Sabres went into Seattle looking to finish off their west coast road trip but fell completely flat, losing 5-1 to the Kraken and looking easily their worst of any game so far this season.

The Kraken took a 1-0 lead 2:20 into the game on Jamie Oleksiak’s first goal of the game with the defense giving Seattle a clear shot at the net. They made it 2-0 just 5:39 in to the period with a quick transition play with Morgan Geekie just straight up skating faster and getting past Owen Power for a relatively easy breakaway goal. The Sabres defense looked pretty sloppy and out of it to start the game. Seattle was easily the better team in the first period going into the intermission up 2-0 at home. Sabres just didn’t get anything going in that period at all with the slowest start we’ve seen for them in any games so far this season.

4:46 into the second period, the Sabres completely collapsed defensively in front of Comrie with a wide open chance for Daniel Sprong, making it 3-0 Seattle. This has easily been the worst start to a game of the season for the Sabres, looking flat offensively and the defense just looks bad. With 7:21 left, the Sabres finished off a great possession, really the first time they showed effort in the game Dylan Cozens finished off the play for the Sabres first goal of the game to make it 3-1. Jared McCann extended Seattle’s lead back to three goals on a great short side shot on the power play with 3:53 to go in the second, taking the wind out of the Sabres sails. Slightly  second period but still not great with only ten shots on goal for Buffalo through two periods.

The Sabres scored a power play goal of their own on a great play by Jeff Skinner to Jack Quinn who finished with the puck in the back of the net to make it 4-2 Sabres with 15:03 left in the game. That goal got reviewed for offsides and taken off the board on a lazy line change by Casey Mittelstadt. The Sabres did draw a penalty though right around the same time to get a five on three opportunity that they couldn’t capitalize on it. Matty Beniers made it a 5-1 game with 10:15 left in the game and at that point I just wanted to hit my over in this game. They rode that out to a 5-1 win.

FINAL: Sabres 1, Kraken 5

Nothing to really like in this game with not even my bet on the over hitting. The Sabres sucked tonight and got completely outworked in every facet of the game.

Let’s just bounce back with a win at home on Thursday night against Montreal.
