Sabres vs. Red Wings: 10/31/22 – Game Reactions/Recap

Coming off a great comeback win against the Blackhawks on Saturday, the Sabres were at home again tonight to face off against the Detroit Red Wings and poured it on with an incredible 8-3 win lead by Tage Thompson’s six point night.

Fun start to the game with the Sabres outshooting the Red Wings 14-6 in the first period playing run and gun hockey. It took till 3:08 in the period to open the scoring with a great rip from the point by Tage Thompson on a cross ice one timer from Jeff Skinner to make it 1-0 Sabres going into the first intermission

On a pretty similar slapshot to Tage’s goal, the Red Wings tied it up just 1:26 into the second period on Olli Maatta’s second goal of the season. The Sabres took the lead back though just a few minutes later with 14:38 left in the second with Jack Quinn on a pass from Tage Thompson. With 5:34 left in the period, Jeff Skinner got the puck right in front of the net and put it in the back of the net for his 300th career goal to make it 3-1 Buffalo. Play Whitney! Tage continued the point streak on a nice little move pulling the puck around the Detroit defense for his second goal of the game with 1:30 left in the second. The Red Wings quickly made it a two goal game again though just 33 seconds later on a finish from David Perron. Great period for Buffalo to keep it rolling!!

Dylan Larkin scored shorthanded 4:19 into the third period to put the Red Wings back within one. As another power play was drawing to an end, Rasmus Dahli scored his sixth goal of the season five hole on Alex Nedeljkovic to give the Sabres a two goal lead once again with 7:07 left in the game. Less than two minutes later Dylan Cozens made it 6-3 Sabres with 5:13 left. Tage Thompson got the hats to rain down in Key Bank Center with 4:02 left in the game on his hat trick goal on a beauty that reminded me of Max Afinogenov going forehand/backhand and deking out Nedeljkovic. As if a four goal lead wasn’t enough, Rasmus Asplund added another one in with 39 seconds left in the game.

FINAL: Sabres 8, Red Wings 3

Great win with an absolutely incredible night for Tage Thompson, getting a six point game with a hat trick to follow up a three point game in the comeback on Saturday. The Sabres poured it on tonight outshooting the the Red Wings 46-18 and it paid off with a fantastic win. In a night that’s going to really be remembered for the offense, the defense played great too with the Sabres shutting down the Detroit offense when it mattered.

Side note: I haven’t complained about this yet this season but the moving and changing board ads are so fucking annoying.
