Started out lousy yesterday afternoon on the NHL slate in close games but finished strong, ending the day 2-3, losing a unit. Today we have a six game slate, let’s bounce back.
Blues vs. Avalanche (3:00)
Both of these teams have struggled as of late. The Blues are coming off a 5-2 loss against the Jets at home on Thursday. They’re 12-15 on the season with only one win in their last six games. They’ve been okay offensively but have struggled a ton on the back end. The Avs are on a four game losing streak after a 2-1 shootout loss to the Rangers on Friday night to drop to 13-10-2 on the season. The defending Cup champs have been decent this season on both ends of the ice this season but they’re struggling with a ton of injuries right now. The first time these teams played this season on November 14th in Colorado after their fantastic playoff series in the second round last year, the Avs outshot the Blues 47-39 but St. Louis got the win 3-2. I’d lean the Avalanche get a win on the road here and would lean the over as well but neither enough to bet on. I’ll lay off this game completely.
Blue Jackets vs. Kings (6:00)
Both of these teams haven’t been great lately. The Blue Jackets are coming off a surprising 3-1 win on Friday against the Flames, ending their three game losing streak with a bounce back from the 9-4 blowout loss they had to the Sabres on Wednesday night. Columbus has sucked this season with a 9-15-2 record. They’re one of the worst teams in hockey on both ends of the ice. The Kings are 15-11-4 on the season, coming off a 4-2 win in Montreal yesterday. They’ve improved from last year offensively but have tanked defensively, struggling on the back end. I’d lean the Kings win here on the road and would lean the over but not enough to bet on it. I’ll lay off this game.
Panthers vs. Kraken (6:00)
These teams have both played well. The Panthers are on the second half of a back to back after losing 4-1 to their rivals in Tampa yesterday afternoon. They’ve taken a step back from last year after they won the President’s Trophy. So far this year they have a 13-11-4 record with three wins in their last five games. They’re offense has been good this season but they’ve struggled defensively. The Kraken after going on a seven game win streak have since lost their last three straight games, most recently coming off a 4-1 loss in Washington on Friday. This team’s much improved from last year with a a 15-8-3 record. Their offense has been a lot of fun to watch this year and has been quite good but their defense still has its issues. These teams just played on December 3rd in Seattle with the Panthers winning in a 5-1 blowout. I’d lean the Panthers win here at home but not enough to bet on it. I do like the over though which I’ll take for half a unit.
Coyotes vs. Flyers (7:00)
What a completely lousy game this is between two teams that fucking suck. The Coyotes ended their six game losing streak on Friday with a shocking 4-3 win against the NHL leading Boston Bruins, just the second win for Arizona in their last twelve games. The Yotes are lottery team this year with an 8-13-4 record. They’ve stuck in games, playing teams close but they’ve sucked on both ends of the ice. The Flyers blow too. They’re 9-13-6 on the season, coming off a 2-1 overtime loss to Vegas (loss for me since it needed OT) they have only two wins in their last 16 games. Similar to Arizona, they stink on both ends of the ice. I’d slightly lean the Coyotes here and the under but no fucking chance I’m betting this game.
Jets vs. Capitals (7:00)
The Jets have been phenomenal this season under head coach Rick Bowness. Coming off a 3-1 win in Chicago on Friday, they’re on a four game winning streak with just one loss in their last eight games improving to an impressive 18-7-1 on the season. They’ve played great offensively and backstopped by Connor Hellebuyck, one of the best goalies in the league, they’ve been one of the best defensive teams in the NHL. The Caps are getting healthier now and with three straight wins coming into tonight’s game, they’re 13-12-4 on the season, coming off a 4-1 win against the Kraken on Friday. I like Winnipeg to get another win here at home and I’ll take the Jets for a unit here. I’d slightly lean the under but not enough to bet it.
Golden Knights vs. Bruins (8:00)
These two teams could very likely meet in the Stanley Cup Finals this season as the two best teams in the NHL out of each conference. The Bruins are coming off a shocking 4-3 loss in Arizona on Friday night but they’re easily the best team in the NHL this season with a historical 21-4-1 start to the year. They’ve played incredibly, as one of the best teams in the league on both ends of the ice. The Golden Knights have been very good as well, leading the West with a 20-8-1 record, coming off a 2-1 overtime win against the Flyers on Friday with a dirty goal from Jonathan Marchessault to win it. They’ve also been very good on both ends of the ice. The first time these teams played this season, less than a week ago on December 5th in Boston was a fantastic game. Vegas got out to a 3-0 lead and then blew that with the B’s forcing overtime and then the Knights giving Boston their first home loss to the season with a 4-3 final on a Reilly Smith goal in the fifth round of a scoreless shootout. I’d slightly lean the Bruins answer back with a win here and will take them for half a unit. I’d lean the over but not enough to bet it.
