The Sabres didn’t play great through the first two scoreless period of tonight’s game but it turned into an incredible 6-0 win for Buffalo, entirely in the third period.
I missed Saturday’s Sabres game in Pittsburgh since I went to see Mark Normand (highly recommend getting tickets to see his show) but I’m back to breaking down tonight’s game.
Sabres looked flat in a scoreless first period, getting pretty much dominated. We got outshot 16-3 and got out chanced 7-1. Craig Anderson making a ton of big saves, especially during a Kings power play late in the period to keep it tied up at 0-0 going into the first intermission.
The game remained tied at zero after two periods but the Sabres did play much better in the second. Craig Anderson was fantastic once again in the second to keep it tied up.
The Sabres finally opened up scoring as Tage Thompson scored his 22nd goal of the season, his tenth on the power play with a great shot from the middle off the ice right off the draw to make it 1-0 Buffalo just 1:21 into the third period. The Sabres made it 2-0 on a nice play with Tyson Jost passing it over on the end wall to Rasmus Asplund and then to Victor Olofsson who put it in the back of the net with 10:04 left in the game. Right off the opening face off after that goal on a beautiful give and go between Jack Quinn and JJ Peterka, JJ scored again just 13 seconds after the last goal, making it 3-0 Sabres. Alex Tuch added to the lead with a power play goal, making it 4-0 with 5:29 left in the game. With 3:33 left, Tage scored his second of the game on a rip from the point As if a 5-0 blowout in the third period alone wasn’t enough Payton Krebs scored his third goal of the season getting right in front of the net off a nice pass from Olofsson to finish the game with a 6-0 Sabres win. Insane third period.
Final: Sabres 6, Kings 0
Not a great start to tonight’s game but what a great win for the boys, winning 6-0. Tonight was the second time the Sabres have scored six goals in a single period in the past week. Even though we got outplayed, especially in the first period it was good to pick up the pace and get such a dominant win while really only being the better team in just 20 minutes of action. Craig Anderson was fantastic in goal, especially early in the game, picking up the 43rd shutout of his long career with a 40 save performance as we got outshot 40-31. We did beat out LA in scoring chances, 15-14 and beating out the Kings in expected goals 2.55-1.44. Both special teams units were good tonight, getting three goals on their six power play opportunities and killing off all three Kings power plays.
A boring first two periods turned into an awesome win off another incredible period for the boys in black and red.
