NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 12/15/22

After giving myself a day off on Tuesday, I came back yesterday with a slightly profitable day going 2-2 to win 0.34 units. Tonight we have a loaded NHL slate with twelve games. Let’s make it two winning days in a row!

Most of my write-ups here are shorter than usual. Busy day.

Bruins vs. Kings (7:00)

Huge mismatch here. The Bruins are the best team in the NHL by a significant margin and the Kings suck right now with just four wins in their last 13 games and coming off a 6-0 blowout loss all in the third period of their last game in Buffalo on Thursday. The B’s should be able to score with ease at home tonight. I’ll take the Bruins in regulation for a unit.

Hurricanes vs. Kraken (7:00)

The Hurricanes are playing great right now while the Kraken are in their biggest slump of the season. I’d expect the Canes to win at home tonight but don’t think its worth betting on at the -200 price. I’d slightly lean the over but not enough to bet it. I’ll lay off this game.

Panthers vs. Penguins (7:00)

This should be a fun matchup. I think the Pens are the better team here and they’re on a six game win streak on a fantastic run going 11-1-1 in their last 13 games. The Panthers haven’t played great lately. I think this does end up being a closer game and would lean Pittsburgh wins and the over, but not enough to bet either.

Canadiens vs. Ducks (7:00)

Both of these teams haven’t been great this year. The Ducks are the worst team in the NHL and are coming off two shutouts in a row, getting blown out 7-0 by the Leafs on Tuesday and losing 3-0 in Ottawa on Monday. Tonight the Ducks have Lukas Dostal confirmed in goal, who had a 5.38 GAA and .849 save percentage in his only start this season. The Habs aren’t world beaters by any means but they’re better than the Ducks by a significant margin and should be able to score pretty easily. I’ll take the Habs TT over 3 for half a unit and the Habs ML for half a unit.

Rangers vs. Maple Leafs (7:00)

The Rangers are finally playing their best hockey of the season on a four game win streak after a 4-3 overtime win against the Devils on Monday night. The Leafs have played incredibly all season though and outplaying the Rags on both ends of the ice. Toronto’s the better team here though and I’ll take them for half a unit to get a win on the road.

Devils vs. Flyers (7:00)

This is a huge mismatch. The Flyers blow. They’re on a four game losing streak and 9-14-7 on the season with just two wins in their last 18 games. They’ve played very poorly on both ends of the ice. The Devils are on a three game losing streak, their longest of the season but have had a fantastic year, playing incredible hockey on both ends of the ice. These teams split their two previous matchups this season. I’d expect the Devils to have a nice bounce back win here to end their losing streak. I don’t think the moneyline at -295 is worth betting but I’ll take the Devils to get it done in regulation for a unit.

Lightning vs. Blue Jackets (7:00)

This is a pretty big mismatch. The Lightning have played great hockey and they’re 18-9-1 on the season, on a three game win streak after a 6-2 blowout against the Kraken on Tuesday with only three losses in their last 14 games. They’re playing great hockey, especially offensively. They haven’t been all that great defensively and tonight will be starting backup Brian Elliott in goal, who despite having a 6-1 record hasn’t been great with a 3.39 GAA and .895 save percentage. The Blue Jackets, who just got shut out 4-0 in Florida on Tuesday, have been terrible and playing bad hockey on both ends of the ice, especially defensively. The first time these teams played this season back in October in Columbus, the Lightning won 5-2. With both backups confirmed in net, I’ll take the over in this game for a unit. Additionally, I’d expect the Bolts to get an easy win at home tonight, even with Elliott in goal. The moneyline is way too expensive here and even the regulation line is too pricey but I’ll take the Lightning team total over for half a unit.

Capitals vs. Stars (7:00)

The Caps have played way better as of late after their relatively lousy start to the season. Coming off a 7-3 blowout win in Chicago on Tuesday, they’re on a five game win streak. Dallas, coming off a huge 4-1 win in Jersey have played great all year. They’ve far exceeded my expectations with the way they’ve played on both ends of the ice. In Dallas on October 27th, the Stars got a 2-0 shutout win. I like the Stars here and think there’s value in them at a pick em price and will take them for half a unit. I’d lean the under but not enough to bet on it.

Jets vs. Predators (8:00)

Winnipeg’s the way better team here and underpriced at -165. I’ll take them for a unit.

Blackhawks vs. Golden Knights (8:30)

This game has a huge mismatch but the line on it is actually significantly cheaper than I expected it to be…at a still pricey -210 that I somehow see a ton of value in. Chicago’s on a four game losing streak and they’ve only gotten one win in their last 13 games. They’ve played horrendously on both ends of the ice. Vegas has been great this season and lead the Western Conference, playing well on both ends of the ice. This should be an easy win on the road for the Golden Knights and I’ll take Vegas in regulation for a unit.

Oilers vs. Blues (9:00)

I’d lean the Oilers get a win at home and the under, but not enough to bet on either and will just lay off this game entirely tonight.

Avalanche vs. Sabres (9:00)

I was in attendance a few weeks ago when these teams played in Buffalo. The Sabres played well but we ended up losing 6-4 and just getting outplayed. Now in Colorado, the Avs have had a ton of injuries and haven’t played great. I like my Sabres to keep it close here and possibly even win. I’ll take the Sabres +1.5 here. I’d lean the over as well but with the way the Avs have trended, I’ll just stay off the total.
