I made a slight profit on last night’s NHL slate with the Jets game being the only losses, finishing the night 4-3 to win 0.5 units. Tonight we have just a small four game slate before another big one tomorrow.
Flyers vs. Capitals (7:00)
I broke this game down in depth for my article on StatSalt. I like the Caps to get a win here on the road and will take them for a unit.
Maple Leafs vs. Predators (7:30)
This has the potential to be a fun cross conference matchup with how well the Preds have played lately and how good the Leafs have been all season. Nashville’s won their last four games and have a 7-1-2 record in their last ten games to improve to 19-14-6 on the season. On the year their offense has struggled but their defense and goaltending from Saros have been good. The Leafs are comfortably in second place in the Atlantic with a 25-9-7 record, coming off a 6-2 win in Philly on Sunday. They’ve been quite good offensivley and have been elite defensively. I’d lean the Leafs win here and would slightly lean the over but not enough to bet on either, so I’ll just stay off this game.
Ducks vs. Oilers (10:00)
On Sunday night the Ducks, who are one of the worst teams in the NHL with a 12-25-4 record, got blown out 7-1 at home by the Bruins on Sunday, ending a two game win streak. This team sucks and they’re one of the worst in the league on both ends of the ice. The Oilers are coming off a 6-3 loss in LA on Monday night, their second in a row after losing 3-2 in overtime on Saturday to Colorado where they blew a 2-0 third period lead. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are two of the best players in the world and even without much depth behind them, Edmonton’s offense has been very good. Their defense and goaltending on the other hand blows though. The Ducks won the first game in this Pacific Division matchup this season in Edmonton on December 17th. I like the Oilers to answer back with a win tonight. I don’t think the moneyline is worth it but I’ll take them in regulation for half a unit. I’ll also take the over in this game for half a unit.
Kings vs. Sharks (10:00)
The Kings have played great hockey lately. They’re in second place in the Paciific Division with a 24-14-6 record, coming off a 6-3 win at home against the Oilers on Monday. They’ve won three of their last four games with a 9-2-1 record in their last twelve games. Their offense has been good all season and their defense and goaltending, which struggled at points this season, has gotten much better with really solid goaltending from Phoenix Copley. The Sharks are coming off a 4-2 win in Arizona last night but have sucked this season with a 13-21-8 record. They’ve been okay offensively but terrible defensively. LA already won the first two games between these teams this season, winning 5-2 on the road on November 25th and then 3-2 at home in a shootout on December 17th. I really like the Kings to sweep the season series between these California teams at home tonight and will take them in regulation for 1.5 units. I’d lean the over but not enough to bet it.
