I absolutely crushed yesterday’s huge 14 game NHL slate, going 11-5 to win 6.18 units. Huge night and my fourth winning day in the last five. Today we have a five game Sunday slate, let’s win again.
Devils vs. Penguins (2:00)
These were two of the four teams in the NHL who got yesterday’s huge 14 game slate off. The Devils had their five game win streak come to an end of Thursday night in Seattle, losing 4-3 in overtime to the Kraken. Jersey’s been very good this season, coming into today’s game with a 29-12-4 record. They’ve played great on both ends of the ice this year. The Penguins answered back after their Wednesday overtime loss in Ottawa with a 4-1 win over the Sens at home on Friday night. Pittsburgh’s 23-15-7 on the season. They’ve played pretty well offensively this season but have had their struggles on the back end. New Jersey won the first game between these Metro Division teams this season with a 4-2 win in Pittsburgh on December 30th. I’ll take the Devils to get a win here at home for half a unit along with the alternate over 6 for half a unit.
Bruins vs. Sharks (7:00)
The Bruins were off yesterday while most of the rest of the league was in action. They’ve dominated the NHL this season and are easily the best team in the league with their historic 36-5-4 start to the year. Coming off a 3-1 win in MSG against the Rangers on Thursday night, they’re on a four game win streak and have been the best team in the NHL statistically on both ends of the ice. The Sharks suck this season. Last night they blew a lead twice and lost 5-3 in Columbus to drop to 14-24-9 on the season. San Jose has been okay (but still struggling offensively, but are horrendous defensively. The B’s won the first game between these teams on January 7th in San Jose 4-2. I’d expect a similar if not even bigger win tonight at home. The moneyline and even the regulation lines are too expensive for me in this game but I’ll take the Bruins team total over 3.5 and the Bruins puck line for half a unit each. I’d slightly lean the under but not enough to bet it.
Blackhawks vs. Kings (7:00)
The Blackhawks are one of the worst teams in the NHL at 14-26-4 on the season but have somehow found a way to just keep on winning. They’re on three game win streak, having won six of their last seven games. Last night they got a 5-3 win in St. Louis. On the season, Chicago’s been horrible on both ends of the ice this year. The Kings fell behind the Oilers yesterday for third place in a very tight top of the Pacific Division, now sitting a point behind Edmonton. They have a 25-16-6 record and come into tonight’s game with three losses in a row after a 5-3 loss last night in Nashville. LA’s been good offensively this season but they’ve struggled defensively, although that has improved recently with the emergence of young goalie Phoenix Copley. Both previous games between these Western Conference teams this season needed overtime and were won 2-1 by the home teams, by the Blackhawks on November 3rd in Chicago and by the Kings a week later on November 10th in LA. I’d lean the Kings win here and the over in this game but not enough to bet on either, so I’ll just lay off this game, especially with LA as -220 favorites on the road and how close the first two games were.
Flyers vs. Jets (7:00)
I broke this game down in depth with my article on StatSalt. As I said in that article, with both of these teams on the second half of a back to back, I like Winnipeg to get a win on the road here and I will take the Jets ML for a unit.
Coyotes vs. Golden Knights (8:00)
This is a huge mismatch in the Western Conference tonight. I broke this game down in depth with an article on StatSalt. I expect an easy Vegas win and I’ll take the Knights in regulation for 1.5 units.
