Really solid night on the NHL yesterday going 9-3-1 to win 3.18 units, for my seventh winning day in the last eight days. Tonight we have just a five game slate, let’s get some more winners.
Maple Leafs vs. Rangers (7:00)
I broke this game down in depth with an article on StatSalt. As I said in that article, I’d lean the Leafs win at home but not enough to actually bet it, so I’ll stay off the side in this game. I really like the under though with two of the best defensive teams in the league facing off and will take it for a unit.
Senators vs. Islanders (7:00)
This isn’t a great matchup and both of these teams have been in pretty big slumps right now. The Senators are 20-23-3 and after a 5-1 loss at home to the Jets on Saturday, they’ve only won one of their last five games. They’ve struggled on both ends of the ice. The Islanders are 23-21-5 and on a five game losing streak with only one win in their last ten games. They’ve been pretty good defensively but have really struggled to score. In the first game between these teams on November 14th, the Islanders got a 4-2 win on the road in Ottawa. I’d slightly lean the Isles get another win on the road here but not even close to enough to bet it. I’d slightly lean the under but not enough to bet it, so I’ll just stay off this game entirely.
Stars vs. Hurricanes (8:30)
This matchup lines up for an awesome cross conference games between two of the best teams in the NHL. The Stars are leading the Western Conference with a 28-13-8 record, but are coming off a 3-2 loss in overtime to my Sabres on Monday night in an awesome game. They’ve played great on both ends of the ice. The Hurricanes lead the Metro Division with a 29-9-8 record, tied with the Devils. After a 5-2 win on Long Island over the Islanders on Saturday, the Canes have a 4-0-1 record in their last five games. They have been elite defensively and although they haven’t been great offensively all season, thats improved quite a bit recently. The first game between these teams this season on December 17th required overtime for Carolina to get a 5-4 win at home. I’d slightly lean the Stars and the under in this game but not enough to bet either in whats a coin flip game for me. I’ll stay off it entirely.
Oilers vs. Blue Jackets (9:30)
The Oilers are on a roll right now, coming into tonight’s huge mismatch of a cross conference game on a six game win streak to improve to 27-18-3 on the season, but still two points behind Seattle for third place in the Pacific. They’re coming off a 4-2 win in Vancouver on Saturday. McDavid and Draisaitl are an entire step above the rest of the NHL and even without much depth behind those two, Edmonton’s offense has been one of the best in the NHL. Their defense and goaltending has been a struggle though. The Blue Jackets, coming off a 4-3 overtime loss in Calgary on Monday have been horrible this season with a 14-30-3 record and just a 3-15-2 record on the road. They have only four wins in their last 20 games. They’ve been horrible on boht ends of the ice. This should be an easy win for the Oilers at home tonight. The moneyline and the regulation lines here are too expensive for me. I’ll take the Oilers team total over 4 and the alternate over 6.5 in this game for a unit each.
Kraken vs. Canucks (10:00)
Last night the Canucks got a 5-2 win at home against the Blackhawks in new head coach Rick Tocchet’s debut behind the bench. They’ve struggled this season with a 19-25-3 record and are the biggest mess of an organization in the NHL. The offense for Vancouver’s been good but the defense and goaltending has been some of the worst in the NHL. The Kraken lost 2-1 in a shootout in an awesome game at home against the Avalanche on Saturday and only have one win in their last four games. They have been really good this season, coming into tonight with a 27-14-5 record and sit in third place in the Pacific with a two point lead over the Oilers. Their offense has been fantastic this season but the defense has struggled. The Canucks surprisingly won both previous games between these teams this season by a goal, winning 5-4 in Seattle on October 27th and 6-5 in a shootout at home on December 22nd. I’d expect the Kraken answer back with a win here at home and will take them for half a unit. I really like the over in this game and will take it for 1.5 units.
