Tonight the Sabres were on the second half of a back-to-back after a big overtime win in Dallas last night. We got another awesome win in St. Louis, getting off to a 4-0 lead early and beating the Blues 5-3.
Incredible start for the Sabres tonight. Just a minute into the game, Jeff Skinner got right in the slot in chaos and off a nice pass of Tage Thompson put the Sabres up 1-0 early. Just 25 seconds later, Skins contributed again with a pass to Tuch to make it 2-0. After scoring his first goal of the season on the game winner in overtime last night, Owen Power scored again 9:07 into the game with a tip in on a pass from JJ Peterka. Great first period for the boys on both ends of the ice.
We started the second period just as nicely as the first, with Tage Thompson scoring 1:10 into the second to make it 4-0 with a nice little toe drag in the slot. The Blues finally got on the board 4:33 into the period, making it 4-1 on a goal from Ivan Barbashev with some sloppy play by the Sabres defense in front of UPL. St Louis cut the 4-0 lead in half on a nice shot for Brayden Schenn to make it 4-2 with 12:04 left in the second. The Sabres lost the puck and the defense couldn’t catch up on the odd man rush to give Schenn that great scoring chance. Not an excellent period but we still have a two goal lead.
The third period started the opposite way of the first two, with the Blues making it a one goal game just 47 seconds in on a Jordan Kyrou goal. Not great to pretty much have blown a 4-0 lead, but at least the over hits without a sweat, even though it turned the game into a complete sweat. With a testy end of the game with the Blues on the power play with the goalie pulled, Dylan Cozen scored on the empty net to cap off the game with 59.8 seconds left to give the Sabres a 5-3 victory.
Final: Sabres 5, Blues 3
Great start to the game that gave us the ability to sustain some lousy defense in the middle of the game to get us our fourth straight win. It got quite dicey in the third period when we almost blew the lead but good to cap off with a win.
Back at it again Thursday night in Winnipeg.
