Yesterday’s NHL games all went to shit late in the third period for me to go 1-4 to lose 3.79 units, and then of course the Caps and Canes won in OT rather than regulation. Tonight we have the last two games before the All Star Break. Let’s bounce back!
Maple Leafs vs. Bruins (7:30)
We have a fantastic Atlantic Division matchup to go into the All Star Break, with the top two teams in the division going at it. I broke this incredible matchup down in depth with my article on StatSalt. As I said in that article, I like the Bruins to end their three game losing streak with a win tonight in a low scoring game. I’ll take the B’s and the under in this game for a unit each.
Sabres vs. Hurricanes (7:30)
Last night the Hurricanes screwed me, needing overtime to beat the Kings but they did it in impression fashion, coming back from a 4-1 deficit going into the third period to win 5-4 in overtime. That extended their win streak to six straight games to improve to a Metro Division leading 33-9-8 record. They’ve picked up at least a point in each of their last nine games. Carolina’s been fantastic on both ends of the ice this season, especially defensively. The Sabres had our five game win streak come to an end on Saturday night with a 3-2 shootout loss in Minnesota. We’ve picked up at least a point in our last seven games to improve to 26-19-4 and sit just a point back for Pittsburgh for the last Wild Card spot in the East, the best place this franchise has been in over a decade. Our offense leads the NHL this season but the defense and goaltending has struggled. The Canes beat us 5-3 in the first game we played against them this season in Carolina on November 4th. I’d expect we keep this one close but the Hurricanes are the better team here. If I had to bet a side on this game I’d go with the Sabres +1.5 but I’ll just lay off it. With Carolina on the second half of a back to back, I do like the over though which I will take for half a unit.
