Sabres @ Kings: 2/13/23 – Game Reactions/Recap

Coming off a brutal 7-2 loss to the Flames on Saturday, tonight the Sabres started off their California road trip in LA, without much better of a result, losing 5-2 to the Kings.

No video recap tonight, didn’t feel like recording it when i have to be up in like five hours.

Slow start to tonight’s game, going into the first intermission with a 0-0 tie. Neither team generated much offense as we were outshot 7-5. We got two power play chances and weren’t able to even get a shot off on either of those power plays, which was pretty disappointing.

Adrian Kempe put the Kings up 1-0 9:20 into the second period as he scored shorthanded after a turnover for the Sabres, streaking down the ice in transition. It didn’t take long for them to make it 2-0 LA. With the Sabres shorthanded on a too many men call, with 7:25 left in the second, Arthur Kaliyev ripped the puck from open space right in the middle of the ice on a defensive breakdown from the Sabres. Before the second period ended, with 1:19 left in the period, the Kings capitalized again on lousy defensive play for the Sabres in transition with Sean Walker ripping a screened shot from the point, making it 3-0 Kings. They scored again with 45.5 seconds to go with the Sabres melting down defensively, with Matt Roy scoring as he was wide open on a nice pass from Kempe. Pathetic defense for the Sabres, Roy had the entire ice all by himself in front. Terrible period for the Sabres on both ends of the ice. Pathetic.

Vicktor Arvidsson tapped in a rebound past Craig Anderson to put the Kings up 5-0 in this blowout 5:14 into the third period. Anderson didn’t have a clue where that puck was. The Sabres finally got on the board with 9:42 left in the third period with Dylan Cozens flying down the ice and putting it past Phoenix Copley to make it a 5-1 game. One more goal for the over so I can go to sleep please. Peyton Krebs hit the over for me with 4:51 left in the game off a great pass from Victor Oloffson, with the pass being the highlight of the game tonight for the Sabres, without much to pick from in this lousy game. Much better third period for the Sabres but it was way too late to matter.

Final: Sabres 2, Kings 5

Another complete shit game for the Sabres for our fourth loss in a row, looking like garbage on both ends of the ice. Even though we outshot the Kings 29-28 and outplayed LA by an expected goal rate of 3.62-2.51, it sure didn’t look it. We looked like crap, especially for the first two periods of tonight’s game.

Glad I was able to at least cash my big bet on the over in this game.

Back at it again Wednesday night with an easier matchup in LA against the Ducks.

Go Sabres.
