The Sabres came into tonight’s game in Anaheim on a lousy four-game losing streak, playing like garbage in all of those losses and turned it around tonight with a much needed, dominant 7-3 win against the Ducks.

The Sabres got the first goal of the game with 13:52 left in the opening period as Tyson Jost just slid the puck past Dostal, with the puck just going under the pad, putting the Sabres up 1-0. They scored again as Tage Thompson shot a rocket from the top of the circle with 4:02 left in the period on the power play. Really solid start for the Sabres tonight being the significantly better team so far, outshooting the Ducks 19-3 and going into the first intermission with a 2-0 lead.
The Ducks scored their first goal of the game with 13:23 left in the second period, with Trevor Zegras having a great zone entry and passing it over to an open Kevin Shattenkirk who one-timed it past Eric Comrie, making it a 2-1 game. Anaheim quickly tied the game at 2 just 1:11 later with a long-range shot from Cam Fowler. Fowler tapped in a rebound that Comrie had no clue where the puck was on to give the Ducks their first lead of the game with 6:52 left in the second. Peyton Krebs and the Sabres answered right back though to tie the game back up only 35 seconds later, getting right in front for a very clutch goal. The scoring didn’t finish for the period yet though, with Casey Mittelstadt went perfectly bar down in the top right corner of the net to give the Sabres the lead back and making it 4-3 with 1:57 left in the second period. I wasn’t thrilled that we gave up three straight goals earlier in the second and Comrie sucked, but good to get the lead back again with the two late goals to take a 4-3 lead into the second intermission.
With 13:47 left in regulation, the Sabres took a two goal lead back with a quick, well placed shot by Alex Tuch. On another top shelf shot, Zemgus Girginson scored his sixth goal of the season and Buffalo’s sixth goal of the game with 8:14 left in the game, making it 6-3 Sabres. Dylan Cozens capped off the win, making it 7-3 with some beautiful moves in front of the net with just over a minute to go.
Final: Sabres 7, Ducks 3
Huge, much needed win to end the losing streak tonight. We had to win this game and dominated. The Sabres doubled up the Ducks on shots, outshooting Anaheim 44-22 and outplaying them by an expected goal rate of 4.86-2.79. After a great start to the game, the Sabres looked lousy for a little stretch during the second period but it was huge to answer back and we continued to dominate in the third.
Sharks late on Saturday night. Let’s make it two wins in a row!
