NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 5/20/23

With a huge third period to hit the over in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals last night, I won 1.5 units on my only play. Tonight after a 4OT game in Game 1 on Thursday we have Game 2 in the East. Let’s win!

Game 2: Hurricanes vs. Panthers (8:00)

The Carolina Hurricanes and the Florida Panthers kicked off the Eastern Conference Finals with an excellent and competitive Game 1 on Thursday night with 3-2 Panthers win on the road in quadruple overtime. Matthew Tkachuk ended the sixth-longest game in NHL history 19:47 into the fourth overtime period to give Florida a 1-0 series lead, after a controversial no-goal call very early in the first overtime on goaltender interference. The Hurricanes outshot the Panthers 65-60 and outplayed Florida by an expected goal rate of 6.5-4.41 in the loss. The game was a defensive grind with 120 saves. I expect the Hurricanes to win this series, giving them an edge in the playoffs on both ends of the ice. After their quadruple overtime loss at home in Game 1, I expect them to bounce back tonight with a big win at home to even the series. This game is pretty much a must-win for them, and I expect this team, who have been fantastic at home to do so. The Hurricanes have been very good statistically on both ends of the ice through the first two rounds of the playoffs. The price on Carolina at just -148 tonight at home seems like great value. They’ve been fantastic at home these playoffs and I expect them to even the series with a win. I just can’t see them dropping two games in a row at home to start a series so I’m hammering the Canes for 2 units. Game 1 of this series was an incredible defensive battle, the sixth-longest game in NHL history, hitting the under easily as the game went to overtime tied 2-2. These teams played the length of over two games with no goals getting scored for almost four full overtime series with 120 total saves. I expect the games in this series to continue trending under. The under has great value at six goals with a price of -127, and I’m taking that for 2 units.
