Sabres Playoffs @ Canadiens – Game 6: 5/16/26 – Game Reactions/Recap

Tonight in a do or die Game 6, the Sabres played their game fantastic, tying this series and forcing Game 7 with a phenomenal win on the road, blowing a 3-1 first period lead but coming back to beat the Habs 8-3.

It only took 31 seconds and with a beautiful move by Rasmus Dahlin down low jumping into the play, he elevated the puck over Dobes to make it 1-0 early. Just 1:09 later though, Wi-Fi quickly tied it up for the Habs, with a pretty simple shot that softly beat Lyon to tie up the game and kill our momentum. Awful goal for us to give up so quick after we scored so early in the game. On a questionable penalty in the playoff for Krebs that I thought should have been a 4 on 4, the Habs moved the puck so well and so effortlessly on the power play, and with a fantastic shot from the right circle, the demigod ripped it home to make it 2-1 Canadiens with 11:48 left in the first. It only took 1:59 later, shorthanded, Jake Evans got off on a two on one and Lyon gave up another real soft one to make it 3-1, with Lindy quickly pulling Lyon for UPL. Season’s over, God we’ve sucked this series. That’s the right move though, Lyon gave up three goals on the three shots he saw. Bad, and two of them were so soft. The Sabres got back within one on the power play in the second half of a double minor with Norris beautifully setting up a tap in for Jason Zucker, making it 3-2 with 6:04 left in the first. What a crazy period. Felt tense all period though and we couldn’t stay out of our own fucking way. At least we’re still in this game.

Just exactly a minute in to the second period, Zach Benson had such a great individual effort, Zach Benson ran out of room with the puck in front, chased down the puck for his own rebound in the corner and then came back in front to bury it, tying the game at 3-3 and already hitting my big over only 21 minutes into the game. Kid’s such a beauty. Let’s go! New game! On the power play, Jack Quinn ripped an absolute beauty for his first playoff goal, giving us the lead back, just perfectly placing it right over Dobes’ glove. What a fucking shot. The Sabres made it 5-3 on a great two on one with 7:01 with Zucker setting up Konsta Helenius to put it in a tiny hole on the glove side of Dobes. Huge goal again. Very good period, almost the opposite rid us crumbling in Game 5.

In the third, on the power play with 10:02 left in regulation, Jack Quinn shot a beauty from down low to make it 6-3, elevating the puck from a low angle and chasing Dobes out of the net. Love to see it. Marty St. Louis pulled Fowler with a ton of time left and Tage flipped it down the ice to make it 7-3 on the empty net with 5:48 left. Let’s go. Game 7 baby. With 2:11 left in the game, Zach Metsa ripped a one timer at the net on the power play, getting his first playoff goal for our fourth power play goal of the night to make it 8-3 with this game already out of hand. Keep pushing it.

FINAL: Sabres 8, Canadiens 3

Series tied 3-3

We played far and away our best game of this series tonight. It got pretty dicey after we gave up the 3-1 lead in the first period, but so huge that we came back and didn’t let off the gas, just continuing to push it and play great. We looked like the Sabres that we were the whole season after November and against the Bruins in the first round. This game was so good for us. Had to win it, and now, for as much as we got dominated this whole series, this is a one game series to advance to the Western Conference Finals. Let’s play like this on Monday night and fucking win. Give Montreal their first two losses in a row since March. Fuck em.

Let’s go Sabres!!
