Gambling is a Fucking Roller Coaster

I expected a fantastic game 7 tonight between the Boston Bruins and the Toronto Maple Leafs.  Going into the year, everyone was picking the Leafs to win the cup and sucking their dicks about how good Tavares, Matthews and Marner were. I knew it wouldn’t matter cause defense wins championships. All year I said that the Leafs were garbage because they had a poor back end and a goaltender that wasn’t gonna be able to backstop them. And all year I said the Bruins were a wagon. I kept saying that the Leafs would get bounced in the first round for sure against Boston, so obviously I bet on the series. I thought that Boston would win in 5 or 6 and it would be an easy cash. Boy was I wrong, a hard fought seven game series that no one could pick the winner of Game 7. I did a little bit of a hedge on the Leafs +1.5 tonight but for the most part just rode out my series bet on the B’s.

After a nice 2-0 lead for the Bruins in the first, I decided to have a little fun with this game and start the live betting on it and took the over 5.5 on the game. With about 10 minutes left to go, the score is sitting at 3-1 Bruins and elimination games always have tons of time with an empty net as coaches like to pull the goalie early. With the Leafs down 2 goals this looked great for the over. So I bet again on the over 5.5 and doubled up on it as well as another bet on the Bruins team total over 3.5. With a full 3 minutes to go in the game, of course Mike Babcock pulls Freddy Anderson and the B’s quickly make it 4-1 with over 2 minutes to go, cashing the TT over 3.5. Boom. And we still got another 2 minutes with the empty net to try to get one more goal for the over 5.5 which I had doubled up on. Plenty of opportunities for the Bruins to put another empty netter away and they just can’t get the puck on net. With about 15-20 seconds left, Brad Marchant throws the puck through the crease and it just missed the empty net by like an inch. I’m pissed at this point cause the game is over and in my head I already lost this over.

Then I couldn’t have gone on a better roller coaster of a couple seconds.  With less than 5 seconds left in the game, the Leafs give up the puck to end the game and Patrice Bergeron has the puck on his stick. He for some reason decides to put it in the net for a meaningless goal with 0.4 seconds left in the game. This goal did nothing and it was just as time expired. All I cared about was if that goal counted for the over 5.5 that I had bet TWICE. This goal was by no means meaningless to me and everyone else who bet this over.

Right after the goal went in the net as time expires, a fight breaks out which meant there was no immediate celebration to the goal. And NBCSN and the NHL really fuck with us here. After the goal is scored, instead of updating the score on the scoreboard and making it final, they completely take the score off the top of the screen with no update on if the goal was official. Since its completely meaningless I could see the NHL just calling it a 4-1 game and saying its a game, screwing all the poor gamblers with money on this over. I check NHL.com and ESPN. Both show around 12 seconds left in the game and no update on if this counts or not. My book shows these bets all as pending, meaning the results of the game aren’t official yet. My brain is racing.

Da da ding, da da ding (shout out Dad for mocking this sound all the time when I lived at home). What a sweet sound coming from my phone from ESPN.  And BANG, goal counts, game over, 5-1 final. They actually sent the goal alert after the final score alert on the game. Cash em all.

What a fucking roller coaster gambling is. I love playoff hockey. Game 7, greatest two words in sports. And I crushed this game.

Side note: I laughed way too hard at this tweet
