“Gloria! Gloria! I think they got your number”
After a game 3 trouncing by the Bruins in St. Louis’ barn on Saturday night, a lot of people thought that Boston had the Blue’s number for the Stanley Cup. It was all but over. Gentlemen’s sweep, many, including me, were saying. But this St. Louis team has showed a ton of fight all season. Going from being the worst team in the NHL in January, these guys rallied and almost won the Central. Then they beat a bunch of great teams to get to the Stanley Cup Final. And in Game 2, beat the Bruins on their home ice to even the series and swing home ice back to St. Louis. Game 3 was not good for the Blues, who got their asses handed to them in the most boring game in a while, 7-2 in the first Stanley Cup Finals game held in the city of St. Louis in 50 years. Binnington didn’t look good and it looked like it was back to the Bruins getting their second cup, in three trips to the Finals since 2011.
All playoffs, the Blues have done a great job of bouncing back after a loss and they continued that tonight in a must win game to give the city of St. Louis their first home win in the Stanley Cup Finals. In a FANTASTIC game.
Former Sabre Ryan O’Reilly (I’m not bitter at all) opened up scoring less than a minute into the game with a beautiful wrap around to give the Blues an early lead in an electric Enterprise Center. A great heads up play by the big goon Zdeno Chara putting the puck on net from at the boards gave Charlie Coyle a nice opportunity up front to make the game 1-1 with 6:46 to go in the period. Then here comes BIG DADDY VLADDY who with an insane move makes the game 2-1 before the buzzer ends the first. Great game already.
After a high scoring first, the only goal to come in the 2nd period was from Brandon Carlo’s first Finals goal, shorthanded on a nice play from Marchy and Bergy to knot the game up at 2. The Blues controlled the 3rd period with ROR netting the eventual game winner, his second goal of the night, halfway through the period. And with a nice puck line and over cover on an empty netter from Braydon Schenn, Blues win 4-2.
We have a fuckin’ series! Back to Boston for Game 5 and then we’ll be guaranteed at least Game 6 in St. Louis. Nothing is better than the Stanley Cup. Play Gloria!!
PS: I’m 4-0 betting this series, don’t fade me.
