The Sabres have been irrelevant for over a decade now. And the moves they make still seem to not matter. Today they made two moves, first trading defenseman Marco Scandella to the Montreal Canadiens for a 4th round pick in 2020. Then they traded that 4th round pick to the Calgary Flames for forward Michael Frolik.
Yeah, it makes sense to trade defenseman when you’re starting seven of them every night and need forward depth on a team that can’t seem to score at all besides Jack Eichel (who this year has finally become a legit superstar). Cool I guess that they did that, but who really cares about this move?
Michael Frolik hasn’t been relevant in 5-10 years. What does this guy, who won the Stanley Cup in 2013 with the Blackhawks, bring to this struggling Buffalo Sabres team? Not much. He has had success in his past in Florida and Winnipeg but only has 10 points (5 goals, 5 assists) this year in 38 games for the Flames.
Why make moves like this that don’t really add anything to your team or make you any more relevant? This team fucking sucks and there’s no hope of that improving anytime soon. That’s the reason we’re the laughing stock of the NHL. Time for the Pegula’s to fire Jason Botterill if they want to see any success anytime soon.
I’d expect to see some more moves for the Sabres in the offseason as both Zach Bogosian and Evan Rodrigues have requested trades out of Buffalo already. Hopefully those turn into something that has more potential to become a bit more impactful on the success of this team.
One of my goals for this year is to write more blogs including more on Buffalo sports. So expect to read more on here and make sure to subscribe to the site on Twitter at @ATownsZone!
