The best show of all time. Ross and Rachel were the best will they/won’t they couple ever, hands down. Everyone knows the words to Smelly Cat. Chandler couldn’t BE any more funny. Everyone’s friends with or related to someone like Monica. And Joey was the best friend every guy wanted and every girl wanted to be with. And the six of them will always Be There for You.
From the very first time that I watched Friends in it’s entirety my freshman year of high school, its been my favorite show. By a mile. Nothing else has ever come close. The greatest show ever. Since then I have watched it over and over and over. Way too many times to even count. I could recite every line to any random episode. I’m obsessed. From buying the DVDs back then, even spending way to much money on a limited edition box to hold said DVDs, to the Blu-ray discs to watch the series for the first time in HD to Netflix that made it easy to watch the best show ever anywhere and became one of the most streamed shows ever along with The Office. It was always the same perfect show no matter how many times you watched it. It still made you laugh every time you watched an episode and love these six characters like they are your actual Friends.
For years and years after Friends ended, there have been tons of rumors and tabloid stories that the main cast was going to be getting back together. I wasn’t too big on these rumors. I didn’t really think any would pan out to be true since the show ended so perfectly.
The best ending of any TV show ever. “I got off the plane” still makes me smile and maybe shed a tear every time I watch Rachel say it.
After the Sex and the City movie came out, there were rumors that there would be a Friends movie. Those turned out to not have any truth to them. When other old shows were rebooted, people would say that Friends was next. Even when creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane would say it wasn’t ever happening and the cast would never answer the question in interviews. It wasn’t going to happen. A few years ago, during a tribute to famous TV director Jim Burrows, the cast of Friends besides Matthew Perry got together and made the world go nuts again seeing them all together.
When Jennifer Aniston joined Instagram, she broke the internet with a photo of all six members of the cast all together. And the rumors of an official reunion flew again.
It sucks that these past few months the show hasn’t been on Netflix prior to it going to the new HBO Max service. But that change looks like it’s going to be worth the wait. Over the last couple weeks, there’s been rumors that with the switch to HBO Max, there’d be a reunion to launch the new service.
As announced by HBO’s chief content officer today:
“Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together—we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire Friends library”Kevin Reilly
It’s finally happening!!!!!
And it will be produced by Marta Kauffman, David Crane and Kevin Bright. The original executive producers of the show. There’s no way this isn’t perfect and the May release of HBO Max cannot come soon enough.
