NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 1/26/22

Solid bounce back night on the NHL yesterday going 8-2 and winning 7.32 units. Tonight we have a smaller five game slate. Let’s crush this to get on a new winning streak!

Maple Leafs vs. Ducks (7:00)

While they’re one of the top teams in the NHL this season, the Leafs have been a bit inconsistent lately with a 3-2-1 record in their last six games. That being said, they’re still very good at 25-10-3. They’re scoring an average of 3.37 goals per game, ninth most in the NHL and lead by Jack Campbell’s great play in goal (2.24 GAA, .927 save percentage) they’re allowing the fifth fewest goals in the NHL, just 2.61 goals per game. The Ducks come off really solid back to back wins against Tampa (5-1) and in Boston (5-3) in their last two games, getting off their losing stretch of 2-9 in their last eleven games prior. The Ducks are now 21-16-7. They’re averaging 2.89 goals per game and allowing an average of 2.8 goals per game. When these teams played in Anaheim on November 28th, the Leafs blew out the Ducks 5-1. I’d lean the Leafs and the under here, but don’t think its worth the -270 price on this game and don’t want to buy it down to regulation only. I’ll just skip this game.

Capitals vs. Sharks (7:00)

The Capitals aren’t playing great hockey lately, coming off a 1-0 shutout loss at home on Monday against Vegas. That was their third loss in their last five games and they have a pretty bad 3-5-2 record in their last ten games, with two of those wins coming in overtime. On the season, they’ve been pretty good, with a 23-11-9 record. They’re averaging 3.19 goals per game and allowing an average of only 2.7 goals per game, eighth fewest in the NHL. The Sharks have been bad lately, with only one win in their last five games and they’re now 21-19-2. They’re averaging only 2.71 goals per game, tenth fewest in the NHL and allowing a twelfth most 3.1 goals per game. Erik Karlsson, one of the Sharks best players, is out of the lineup tonight. The first time these teams played this season, the Caps won a pretty easy 4-0 game. I like Ovi and the Caps a lot to bounce back tonight from their shutout loss on Monday. Even though I don’t love laying this kind of juice, I’d rather do it here than buy it down to regulation only and I’ll take the kind of expensive Caps ML for 1.5 units.

Blue Jackets vs. Flames (7:00)

Both of these teams haven’t played great hockey lately. Columbus has been pretty bad, with just three wins in their ten games. Those wins came against Philly (horrible), Jersey (pretty bad) and Carolina (who were on like their fifth string goalie that night). The Jackets are 18-20-1 and have been decent offensively, averaging 3.03 goals per game. They’ve been terrible defensively though, allowing an average of 3.54 goals per game, fourth most in the NHL. Calgary’s a solid team this year with a 19-12-6 record. They come into this game with two wins in their last three games (7-1 against St. Louis and 5-1 against Florida) but those were their only wins in their last seven games and they just have 4 wins in their last 13 games. They’re averaging 3.19 goals per game, eleventh most in the NHL and allowing the second fewest goals in the NHL, an average of 2.54 goals per game. I like Calgary to win this game but not enough to lay the -200 on. Both of these teams have trended over recently and even with the Flames good defense, I’ll take the alternate over 5.5 for a unit here.

Red Wings vs. Blackhawks (7:30)

Both of these teams kinda suck on both ends of the ice. The Red Wings are 18-18-6 with just two wins (both against the shitty Sabres) in their last eight games. They’re a significantly better record at home where they are 13-6-3 on the season. Detroit is scoring a ninth fewest in the NHL average of 2.67 goals per game and allowing a tenth most 3.29 goals per game. The Blackhawks are 15-20-7 and on a four game losing streak. They’re terrible offensively, averaging only 2.29 goals per game, third fewest in the NHL and they’re allowing an average of 3.24 goals per game, eleventh most in the NHL, just slightly more less than the Red Wings. The first time these teams played this year in Chicago on October 24th and the Red Wings got a 6-3 win. I feel like this is a coin flip game, I think the goaltending with Fleury in net is better for the Blackhawks but the Red Wings are decent at home. I’ll skip this game. I’d lean the over, but not enough to rely on two shitty offenses to score. This is the perfect example of a game where the best bet is none at all.

Avalanche vs. Bruins (10:00)

We close out the night with easily the best game on the slate between two teams playing really good hockey. The Avalanche come off a 2-0 shutout win against Chicago on Monday night, Pavel Francouz’s second shutout in a row. The Avs are still rolling. They’re one of the top teams in the league at 29-8-3 with an insane 18-2-1 record at home. They come into this game on a seven game win streak with just one loss in their last 13 games and just two in their last  19 games. Their offense leads the NHL, scoring an average of 4.1 goals per game but they’re not as great defensively, allowing an average of 2.95 goals per game. Tonight Darcy Kuemper’s starting for them. The Bruins are coming off a surprising 5-3 loss to the Ducks on Monday night. They’re 24-13-3 and have been very good as of late with only three losses in their last 13 games since coming back from the Christmas break. They’re scoring an average of 3.1 goals per game, much improved from earlier in the season and allowing an average of 2.72 goals per game, eleventh fewest in the NHL. I like the Avs to keep their home win streak going here even though it’ll likely be a close game and will take them for a unit. It’s rare that we see MLs on Colorado under -200, so have to jump on this one. I’ll also take the over for a unit, expecting both teams to score enough to put it over the 6 or at least get us a push.
