Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Essentially broke even on the NHL yesterday, going 5-4 winning 0.14. Today we have a quick four game early slate before we get to football tonight!
Canadiens vs. Sabres (12:30)
Both of these teams suck. The Habs are the worst team in the NHL and after yesterday’s 2-1 loss to the Blue Jackets they’re now 8-32-7 and on a nine game losing streak with just one win in their last 16 games. They’re last in the NHL in scoring, averaging 2.17 goals per game while allowing an average of 3.96 goals per game, most in the NHL. Worst team in the league on both ends of the ice. My Sabres aren’t much better. They’re 14-24-8 with just one win in their last five games. They’re averaging just 2.57 goals per game, seventh fewest in the NHL while allowing a fifth most average of 3.48 goals per game. Both times they played so far this season, the Sabres won pretty easily at home in Buffalo with a 5-1 win on October 14th and a 4-1 win on November 26th. For probably the first time this season, I’m betting on my team here with a unit on the Sabres ML and half a unit on the puck line. Let’s Go Buffalo!!
Capitals vs. Senators (12:30)
After their 5-2 win in Montreal on Thursday night, the Caps now have three wins in their last five games and now have a 26-14-9 record. Even though they’ve been playing kind of lousy hockey lately, they’ve been good on the stat sheets, averaging 3.24 goals per game, eleventh most in the NHL and allowing an eleventh fewest average of 2.76 goals per game. Ottawa stinks and they’re 16-24-4 this season. They’re scoring only 2.66 goals per game, ninth fewest in the NHL and are allowing an eleventh most average of 3.25 goals per game. The Caps won their first two matchups this season against the Sens with a 7-5 win on October 25th in Ottawa and a 3-2 overtime win at home on January 22nd. I’m riding the Caps again here with a 1.5 unit parlay on the Caps ML with the Pens ML along with a unit on the Caps in regulation.
Devils vs. Penguins (1:30)
The Penguins got off their four game losing streak with back to back wins in Boston and Ottawa coming out of the All Star break and now they’re 29-11-8 on the season. The Pens are a great team this season, averaging 3.29 goals per game, ninth most in the NHL and on Tristan Jarry’s All Star level of play in goal (2.21 GAA, .925 save percentage), they’re allowing a third fewest 2.52 goals per game. The Devils also come into this game with back to back wins in Montreal and St. Louis where they scored 7 goals in both of those games, ending their seven game losing streak. NJ sucks this season though and they’re 17-26-5. They’re averaging just 2.92 goals per game and have been terrible defensively, giving up 3.5 goals per game on average, fourth most in the NHL. These teams split their first two games this season with the road team winning those, with a 4-2 Devils win on October 30th and a 3-2 Pens win on December 19th. The Penguins should get the win here so along with my parlay, I’ll take the Penguins in regulation and the Penguins TT over 3.5 for half a unit each.
Stars vs. Avalanche (2:00)
This should be a fun game here. The Avs are one of the best teams in the NHL with a 33-8-4 record on the season and just one loss in their last twelve games. They have the second highest scoring offense in the NHL, averaging 4.07 goals per game and they’re allowing an average of 2.89 goals per game. The Stars are coming off a big 4-3 win in overtime against Winnipeg on Friday night (winner), their third win in their last four games and they’re 25-18-2 on the season. They are much better at home where they’re 17-6-1 this season. Dallas is averaging 3 goals per game and allowing 3.02 goals per game on average. The Avs i think should be pretty big favorites here even with the Stars playing great at home. The first time these teams played this season, Dallas pulled off a 3-1 win as home dogs on November 26th. I like the Avs to bounce back here with a win and I’ll take them for a unit.
