Sabres vs. Penguins: 11/2/22 – Game Reactions/Recap

Coming off a fantastic 8-3 win against Detroit on Monday, the Sabres made it three wins in a row tonight beating the Penguins 6-3 in comeback fashion. Another great game!

The Penguins on the second half of a back to back after last night’s game against the Bruins where they blew a 5-2 lead in the second period to lose in overtime came into Buffalo tonight looking to bounce back from their five straight losses.

6:28 into the first period, the Pens got on the board first on a Jason Zucker on a two on one which turned out to be the only goal of the first period. The Sabres played well to start the game though, outshooting Pittsburgh 11-6 in the first twenty minutes.

The Pens made it 2-0 on a goal from Josh Archibald 5:50 into the second period. With 1:09 left in the period, JJ Peterka scored the Sabres first of the game from the top of the right circle to make it 2-1.

Right off the opening face off of the third period, Jake Guentzel got behind the Sabres defense and walked in to quickly make it 3-1 Penguins on a power play goal just eight seconds into the third. Tage Thompson got the Sabres back within one on a power play of their own 3:21 on a one time rip top shelf on a pass from Rasmus Dahlin. That goal put Tage Thompson at ten points in his last three games, the first Buffalo Sabre since Max Afinogenov in 2006-2007. On a great cross ice pass from Owen Power, Victor Olofsson shot the puck in to the empty net to tie it up with 13:31 left in the game. Alex Tuch finished with a beautiful chip in to the top right corner of the net on a two on one with Tage Thompson with 9:26 left to give the Sabres the first lead of the game. To close out the game, after Zemgus Girgensons raced to cancel out a potential icing call, the captain, Kyle Okposo scored an empty net goal to make it 5-3 and as time was ticking down on the game, Victor Olofsson scored his second of the game on another empty net to finish it off with a 6-3 Sabres win!

FINAL: Sabres 6, Penguins 3

Another awesome comeback win for the Sabres with five unanswered goals in the third period for their third win in a row. That loss puts the Penguins on a six game losing streak for the first time since 2020. Only two teams in the NHL have more points than the Sabres right now. This team is good…scary good.

Let’s Go Buffalo!!!
