NHL Daily Gambling Preview – 11/6/22

Fourth profitable day on the NHL in a row yesterday on the huge slate as I went 7-5 to win 1.07 units. This evening we have just three games. Let’s make it five in a row!

Hurricanes vs. Maple Leafs (5:00)

The Carolina Hurricanes won their fourth straight game to improve to 8-2-1 on the season Friday night as they took down the Sabres in a 5-3 win that really showcased how good of a team the Canes are. Carolina’s been very good on both ends of the ice and could really be a cup contender this season. Their offense has scored an average of 3.27 goals per game on an average of 37.6 shots on goal. Defensively they’ve been pretty good as well, allowing an average of 2.82 goals per game, limiting the shots against them to an average of 26.1 per game. Toronto’s on the second half of a back to back tonight, coming into tonight’s game on a much needed two game win streak to improve to 6-4-2 on the year. Last night the Leafs grinded out a 2-1 win against a very good Bruins team, limiting the B’s only goal to a penalty shot. On the season, the Leafs offense has struggled to generate much of anything. They’re averaging just 2.83 goals per game on an average of 32.2 shots on goal. They’ve been decent defensively, allowing an average of 2.75 goals per game on an average of 27.8 shots allowed. On the second half of a back to back, the Leafs will be starting third string goalie Erik Kallgren today who has a 3.28 GAA and .884 save percentage in his three starts this season, all losses. In the three games these teams played last season, the Leafs won two of them. I’ll take the Canes for half a unit here at home to keep the win streak going. Blow Leafs Blow. I’d slightly lean the under but not enough to bet on it.

Rangers vs. Red Wings (5:00)

With high expectations of them from a season ago, the Rangers haven’t been all that great to start this year. They’re 6-4-2, coming off a 5-2 loss to the Bruins on Thursday. New York’s offense has only scored an average of 2.83 goals per game this season on an average of 35.1 shots on goal. Defensively they haven’t been as great as they were a year ago, allowing an average of 2.92 goals per game on an average of 29 shots allowed. Yesterday afternoon the Red Wings got a dominant 3-0 shutout win against the Islanders to move to 6-3-2 on the season. One of the worst teams in the NHL a season ago, Detroit has definitely improved on both ends of the ice. They’re averaging 3.09 goals per game on an average of 28.2 shots on goal and allowing an average of 3 goals per game on an average of 34.1 shots allowed. Last year, to no real surprise, the Rangers won two of the three games that they played against the Red Wings. The well rested Rangers should win this game today but at the astronomical price of -260, there’s no value in betting on it to me. If the Red Wings weren’t on the second half of a back to back I’d go with the Detroit +1.5 puck line here but I think the best move on this game is to just skip it entirely. I’d lean the under as well, but not enough to bet on it. I’ll skip this game completely.

Ducks vs. Panthers (9:00)

The Florida Panthers are a much worse team than they were last year when they went on to win the President’s Trophy. Coming off a 5-4 loss to the Kings last night, they’re only 6-5-1 on the season, struggling a lot defensively. Florida’s offense has been fine, scoring an average of 3.08 goals per game, generating a ton of shots, averaging 39.8 shots on goal per game. On the back end they’ve been lousy and inconsistent though, leading to their losses. They’ve allowed an average of 3.25 goals per game on an average of 29.5 shots allowed. The Ducks played in an awesome game against their rival Sharks last night, coming back from down 4-2 with less than five minutes left in regulation to tie it up and go on to win 5-4 in a shootout (winning my over bet) with a crazy 48 save performance from Anthony Stolarz. Anaheim is one of the worst teams in the NHL though at 4-7-1. Their offense has been okay, scoring an average of 2.83 goals per game on an average of 28.8 shots on goal. Their defense on the other hand though is the worst unit in the NHL, giving up the most goals in hockey, an average of 4.58 goals per game on an average of 39.8 shots allowed. Florida won both games they played against the Ducks last season with a 3-0 shutout and a 3-2 overtime win. I like Florida to win this game on the road but at -210, that’s too pricy for me to lay the juice on them with how inconsistent their defense is. They haven’t been able to put far inferior teams away despite their good offense which makes me not want to bet the regulation line here either. I do like the over though, expecting Florida to be able to score while likely giving up some goals to the Ducks. I’ll take the over for half a unit.

Game Bets

.5u Hurricanes ML (-155)

.5u Panthers/Ducks over 6.5 (-113)

Record: 86-77-2 (-11.98 units)
