Tonight the Sabres faced off against the Canucks in what seemed like a great get right spot after going on a five game losing streak to drop under .500 on the season but they weren’t able to climb out of an early hole in a 5-4 loss.
The Sabres got off to a slow start tonight getting into a two goal hole pretty early in the game. The Canucks got on the board 8:01 into the game and just 1:17 later, Ethan Bear made it 2-0 Vancouver. The Sabres answered back though with a great tip in goal by Jeff Skinner on a wonderful feed in front of the net by Rasmus Dahlin, putting the Sabres within a goal 11:15 into the opening period. Also, I still stand behind that Skinner has the best goal song in the league, play Whitney!
The second period ended up being pretty entertaining with a lot of scoring. The Canucks got back up two goals just 31 seconds into the second period on an Elias Pettersson goal. Skinner answered back once again putting the Sabres with in one with his second goal of the game just 3:43 in. Buffalo couldn’t stay out of the box, giving up two power play goals to the Canucks within 1:12, with JT Miller and Bo Horvat putting Vancouver up 5-2 with 11:35 left in the second, which would prove to be too much for the Sabres to come back. Alex Tuch made it 5-3 a couple minutes later.
In the third period, Casey Mittelstadt made it a competitive game again 12:02 into the final frame on a quick shot through traffic just as Vancouver killed off a Sabres power play. Although we had some good chances as the game drew to a close trying to tie it up, we fall short again as the Sabres lost 5-4.
FINAL: Sabres 4, Canucks 5
Boys played fucking sloppy tonight. I didn’t have much issues with the losses to Vegas and Boston, but this one pissed me off. This should have been a game that the Sabres outworked the Canucks but we didn’t. No excuses.
Back in action again tomorrow night against Ottawa, who’s struggling too. Need to come out hot early and get a lead, hold onto that and win. Can’t be on a seven game losing streak.
